the Family type farmer to "
maintain his farm in the interest
of preservation of farm land in
Canada.'
^ The above two Resolutions
were submitted by St. Joseph's
'Parish Council, ' i ,ingsbridge,
Ontario.
-Concerning these two
Resolutions a strong ' objection
from' Windsor Councils was
received as they believed tile
farmer was already receiving" far
too much money for his products.
They thought a farmer received
$2.35 for a 50 ib. 'bag of onions.
Supermarkets only made a. profit
of .25 cents on a 50 lb. bag of
Onions as he had to pay all his
helpers. Therefore, the
supermarkets should be paid
more money, not the farmer.
Mrs. Peter DeBruyn, Blenheim =_
(as she had been forced off .their
onion farm some 6 years ago,
because of the low prices paid to
farmers) stated in defence that
the farmers price was only .60 c
fora 50 lb. bag of onions, and as
usual—on the farm -•-wives, sons
and daughters helped, with
cultivating the soil, the planting,
• the hoeing, who could make a.
profit on this kind of pricing, she
asked. More complaints were.
heard.
Mrs. Teresa ' Courtney,
President of the Kingsbridge-
Council who , submitted the
Resolutions took the stand. in
defence of "Farm Income". She
stated a farmer sells a bushel of
, turnips for. 35c 'to 50c -.rand
Consumers pay thismudh for just
1 turnip. The farmer's share of a
21c loaf of bread is only .02c. Hog
prices are .22c a lb'. Prices of
milk, eggs, apple juice were also
quoted. "A Cannery Pays- More
For The Label On The Can Than
He Does for the produce That.Is
Inside The Can."
The Supermarket profits are up
' as much as'300 percent in the first
quarteeof this year. The family is
a most efficient unit as much as
the labour is done by members of
, the family. In 1940 one farmer

The -fourth r°esolution,
"Assistance To Pensioners In

worded this- way: many senior
citizens, living in small

to maintain a home, are in heed. of
