At a special meeting df the
Huron -Perth County •, Roman
Catholic Separate School Board in
Seaforth Monday night, it ,was
decided by a vote of 9 to '5 to keep
the board. offices in Seaforth.
• This, decision was reached
following several hours
diussion in committee of the
whole. All fourStratford trustees
and Patrick Carty, representing
Ellice and North and South
Easthope Townships, voted
against the motion, hoping to have
the . offices, relocated at the
Loretto convent on Huron Street
in Stratford. + '

,Seaforth were John McCann, R.R.

Last week, Rev. Carl Keane of
St. Joseph's Roman Catholic
parish in Stz.atford offered to rent
to the board a Stratford convent,
which is ten years old, which will
be vacated by the Loretto sisters
for smaller quarters. Since 1969,
at the formation •of the board,
offices 'have been occupied on
Main Street, Seaforth. A year and
a half remians' in the current
lease`

When the final class is
dismissed this summer at the
Goderich and District Collegiate
Institute three staff members will
pack up their books for the last
time. After a combined teaching
experience of 85 years, Claude
Kalbfleisch Leonard Bowe and
R.J. Carter are retiring.
Mr. Kalbfleisch retires as head
of the Mathematics Department of
Is' well as a 'staff
membei'.'More than 39 years ago
he took up a teaching career.and
1.5 'Of those years vicer.e spent in,
Huron County Classrooms. The
last 11 years Mr.. Kalbfleisch has
been a teacher in Goderich.
Teaciing'has become a way of
life in the Kalbfleisch family. One
of Mr:'Kaibfleisch's sons, Jim, 'is
a professor of statistics at the
University ,of Western Ontario
while a second son, Jack, is an
assistant professor of statistics
at the University of New 'York.. A
daughter Carol is a teacher at'
' Cameron Heights Collegiate in
Kitchener. A third son, Peter is
presently in his scond year at the-
• University of Wrioo.
As Leonard Boyce retires,
after 41 years in the teaching
profession: and 17 years at the
Goderich and District Collegiate,
he leaves not only:. a vacant
position in the Science
department but 'also the Vice
Principal's chair empty.
When one works at any job for
more than 49 . years there , are
_bound to be memories and man'

recalls his first jos at School

school for five years. His other
experiencesa however make up.'

and at Barryfield near Kingston
Ontario. He also instructed army.
and airforce personnel in
mathematics. •
Previous to holding ' .that
position he„ operated his own
contracting business, dealing in
mechanical trades, for 15 years,
two of his sons now owh and
operate' the business throughout
Huron and Essex Counties.
"The most rewarding jpb I ever
had," he recalls; "was during the
war when I worked as a
superintendent on a shipbuilding
project. When those boats sailed
away you really felt like you
created sorn.ething.C_
• Teaching is also becoming part
of the Carter family with another
son holding a high school teaching
position as well. Mr. Carter's
fourth son is a banker while his
two daughters are employed as a
,teac'lier and the other works in the
field of music.
