„ 125 YEAR - 23 `petition Trudeau directly 4 ,p THURSDAY, JUNE '22 1972 SINGLE COPY ust Godef'ich Town Council has passed a resolution which is to be forwarded to Prime Minister Pierre Elliott . Trudeau, "'Hon:' 'Robert Stanfield, leader of the • Opposition, and David Lewis, National Leader of the New,: Democratic Party. The resolution asks for repairs, to the n,orth, east harbor wall, a matter which has been pending since December 21,1964. "It may be an unorthodox way to get things done,” said Reeve Paul Carroll, who presented- the motion. which was seconded by Deputy -reeve Dave Gower, "but it would beinteresting to go down there and find a corner of 'the elevator lying across the harbor." The•complete Motion reads: s Whereas there has been • unreasonable and unwarranted' delay by the Federal Department of Public Works in the matter of repairs to certain portions of the commercial harbour at the Pbrt of Goderich; ,and, Whereas discussions between the Department of Public Works and the Goderich Elevator Company have proceeded unsuccessfully in the matter of the -.needed repairs. To' the southeast corner of the ' commercial harbour; and, Whereas supportive action in.,this matter by the Town of Goderich has been totally fruitless; and, Whereas this matter is of vital concern to the maintenance of ' reasonable and adequate' commercial shipping facilities in the Goderich. Harbour; " ' Therefore be it resolved, that the Council of the Town of Goderich • petition the Prinie Minister ,of - Canada directly, to give immediate corrective attention to • ' this matter which has,, been neglected as an ' apparently • insignificant request; and, Further be it resolved, that this .resolution be forwarded also to the Leader of.the Opposition, the • Honourable Robert Stanfield; and the National Leadter,of the New Demrocratic Party,.David Lewis, to urge that tfre'y also pursue this Matter on behalf of. the Town .,of Goderich .in -whatever manner they deem expedient: Most Excellent Champion Leo J.
