operational support ship Preserver, paus6s to look at some fine chinaware on display near the old
gothic monastery at Batalha, Portugal. Cpl. Blue was in Batalha during a brief stop on return from the
shrine at Fatima. His ship was in Portugal taking part in Nato fleet exercises •in• the eastern Atlantic.
The Preserver was away from her home port in .Halifax in company with other Canadian and NATO

The Huron branch of the Co-
operative Health Services of •
Ontario this week made a
presentation of funds remaining
in their account to Alexandra,
Marine and General Hospital and
-the Goderich Association for.;the
%_lvientally Retarded.' The Co-
operative recently ceased to
function in a number of fields of
'providing * health iQsurance
benefit: due to the Province of
Ontario's move to medreare' end
the funds not needed in the
remaining fields of coverage
were presented,. in the form of a
donation, last week.
The County' Medical Co-
•operatives were organized in
1947 to provide hospital
insurance , forself-employed
persons who could not otherwise
obtain insurance, and did good
service in, this field until 1959
when they were re -organized to

Hospital Insurance and to provide
surgical and medical ilisurance
for their members. ,
When Ontario entered
Medicare on October 1, 1999, the
Medical Co=operatives voted 'to
amalgamate into one large group -

Health Services of Ontario. Since
the new company required f4wer
offices, Huron and Bruce
membership lists.„ were
combined. Huron records were
sent tathe Bruce County office in
Paisley, and the Clinton office
was closed on December 31, J969.
All assets were turned over to
the hew company, but monies -not
required under the'terfn$ of the
amalgama;tion.vier ' tobe
returned,, alter audit, to - the .
,,County.Trust Committees set up
in 1969. .
