meetings last week! On Thursday,
the Brownies had a tot of, tun by
making their whole meeting into a
Sing -along -and the next, day
'everyone returned to the gym, to
make. scettery to go with one. of
.nadir songs: Enthusiasm was very
,high and.their time flew by $efore'

use their new scenery as they sing'
and, of t ourse,, we're all looking
forward to _that!
There.wasstill a bit of time for
a favourite gameor two and the
girls chose "Strut Miss Suzie".
They line up in two rows, facing
each other, and at the proper time

something completely different,
preferably something that hadn't
been done before --and . they
responded enthusiastically as

On Thursday, 'February 17 he
Fourth Goderich Brownies met.
We celebrated. Lord Baden-
Powell's .bi'rthday and played a
few games,. •
On Friday (the eighteenth) we-
went for a sleigh ride at Mr.
Hindmarsh's farm. °' - We. all
enjoyed the ride very much' We

some of us got off and walked or
ran. His horses were both girls.
On Thursday, we closed with
our Brownie Prayer..
• Last Wednesday the Guides Wbd
have been 'learning, the
requirements for the Home Nurse
'and 'Ethergency Helper badges
were tested. We 'heil�rd. it was a
very thorough test but don't knbw
the •results yet.
In the weeks s3'nce they began,
the girls have been taught how to
prevent infection,- h,Qw ,tQ make a
bed with, a patfent in it, bathing •a
patient in bed, reading a
thermometer and baby care to
name just a few things.
At the other end of the gym,
Guides were racing each ether as
'they improved their knot tying and
increasing their knowledge as
they learned new ones to add to
their growing list. Later, these

girls tried a new way tg play
Game" •-a-using a
'blindfold over their eyes so that-

they used only their sense of
smell before trying to Make a list

before them. Most girls 'correctly

Enrolment in Ontario's
elementary 'schools has
decreased fpr the first time in 26
years, Education•Minister Robert
Welch said recently.
Preliminary statistics
- compiled by , Department of
• Education show that at the start of
the 1971-72 scjiool year,.
elementary school enrolment -
dropped to 1,456,'509, a decrease,
'of 8,979 -over -the previous year:
Public school enrolment '
totalled 1,034,373. while the
Roman Catholic Separate School
enrolment was 422,136.
Although the o elementary
- enrolment dropped, secondary
school enrolment rose to 574,664,
an increase of 17,751 ;over Sept.
30, 1970. Secondary school
enrolment is expected to continue
to increase until 1978.
• While the overall enrolment in
• kindergarten decreased by more
than 10,000 in the last year, t�-

noticeable increase in junior
