(staff photo) 4, Despite a steady drizzle on Saturday the Huron County, Plowing Match enjoyed an excellent turnout of competitors and spectators alike on the farm of Jamieson Ribey at RR 6, Goderich. The forty,fgurth' annual competition was sponsored by the Huron Plow,man'..s Association. 'About', -,60 persons entoted ,the contest in one or nnore of its numerous divisions 'a -rid" according to the association, the site was ideal for the contest -despite—the steady dew; ram. Queen of the, Furrow, this year was Mrs. Gordon Pryce, 23, of RW4, Walton. She eliminated five other contestant's to emerge the winner. Runner.up. in that division was Faye Merrill, 22„, of RR 2, Clinton. In the special utility class which is open to all,, entrants 'with 12,..1041 furrows or more, Barry .Gordon of - RR 1, Seaforth, came out on top. John Becker of Dashwood wort the Esso championship award while the Eato,'s of Canada Trophy went home with John Leeming ,of RR 4, Walton, for the best plowed land by a junior competitor. • using a mounted plow. The open class for tractors pulling mounted plows was,won by Graeme Craig of RR 1, ,Walton: The division was also open to semi mounted or trail plows and he captured the International Harvester of Canada Ltd. cash prize for the best plowed land in the utility class using a mounted,pl`ow. His finish was chosen the best in the division. The cash prize offered by K,ongskilde Ltd: of Exeter went to Gunner Pind of the ',same community in the• class •for tractors pulling four or,' more plows in three circuits of the field. -Mr. Pind was also named the winner of the Gordon McGavin special award nfor contour plowing. T. P. O'Malley.of Teeswate. placed first in the open elass for all comers 'vith tractors pulling as many plows as wished. His finish "was named best in the division and at the -end of all events Mr. O'Malley received a cash award for producing the Test finish of the day. Pp u'rteen-year-old William Armstrong 'of RR 4, Wingh►am, produced the best crown and finish in the class for boys and girls 15 and under. He also took home the Bank of Montreal Award, a wrist w,gtch. In the special class for senior high school pupils 19 and under John Leeming and Barry Gordon won , for the Seaforth District High School. The representatives of the Goderich' and District G_Q 11 giate Institute• placed econd and the South Huron District High School at Exeter laced third. South Huron did better in the junior high school pupil class for 16 and under ,as Dan Regier and Peter McCann won first prize' for their, school_..
