:Minister's study
BY 'REV. ROBERT RAYMONT
• NORAH STREET UNITED CHURCH
a • ,
What now?
The summer vacation is over.
• We have all enjoyed the trips,
the cottage, the friends and
'irelati'nes. Now comes the settling
in phase of oijr year. Settling
into the responsibilities and joys
of another fall.
What about your Church?
For some, the summer interlt Ie
has made little difference. For
others, summer means, a break in
their worship w pattern. For a
certain number, it makes little
difference, since "regular worship
has not been -part' of their
pattern,of living. But what about
this fall for all of ug'?
° The question is put because
there seems to me to be a
changing attitude towaids the
Church. We have had' our
criticism binge, but it- iso nbkv
exhausted. We have examined
• the negative aspects of Church
life. Now we are beginning to
* . realize that their are also positive
aspects to worship. We have
tried substitutes for the Church:
Now we are beginning to realize
that the substitutes do not have
as°good a batting average in this
business' of life as does the
Church.
• Was. the binge a waste of
time? No! If you have been
away from your Church, you
might discern some 'subtle sand
o
some obvious charfges
taken place. You Won't find the,
same old things going on in the
institution. The basic change..:
you will discover will be the
new, or, revitalized, attitude
among some "members and
ministers,
Now why not face some
facts, To suggest that hockey,
snowmobil ing, or any other
w -inter 'recreation is as valuable
as Church involvement for your
life .is a lie you tell yourself. This
is a point you can debate with
me anytime. Come on in or
invite -me over to discuss it.
Winter sports are fun, but they
are also , diversions from life.
They do not and can not change
people.
The Church stands in this
community in many forms. All
of them contribute to a newness
of life for their people. You too
can .participate in this'newness'
if you come and get involved.
That is one of the subtle changes
we are now open to listen to
and react to your contribution:
What now? Back to Church?
You :can't loge if that is your
decision. Walkup to the minister
or some other Arson and say:
t'My name is' and I want
to become involved in this"
Congregation."
