and About
,With Martha
Now that the youngsters are
back in school are yob thinking
"Oh, Boy ! now I can -get to do
some of the things 1 want to
do?"
Last week I mentioned that
we may have classes ;available in
the: afternoons.' for the adults
who are interested in using a
couple of hours for their own
pleasure,
Of course, you could spend
that two hours over coffee just
talking, about',what you'd LIKE
to do — or -just gossiping ,abo
those who don't happen tNlie.
present — but that is actually a
waste of time if you really think
'about it.
So why not give the
coffee-ers something, to talk
about by getting yourself started
on an interesting .project? The;
can't do more than envy you —
and later they will want to -join
the class — when it is too'late.
We have a wonderful teacher
lined up to teach feather tooling
— REAL tooling — -where you
• can make something you> can be
really proud of and after many
years still good eno,ugh to pass
on to another if you should tire
of it.
There is only room .for about
six people in this class which is
for the "ones who really; want to
learn this beautiful,- craft. Our
teacher is one. in a million — she
wants to teach others so that
they in' turri' might pass the art
on to their children 'and others.
In other words,..she does not
want this craftto die out. There
are lotsi of ways` to simulate
leather tooling - and ,most of it
LOOKS just like tha,t — phoney.
t You. can't learn to do this. in
died easy lessons — it takes
time.` In the begihning tho', you
will make some small items until
you learn how to conserve and
make the most of your pieces of
leher. Lessons will,. not be too
expensive as you will pay for
your own materials. But you will
learn haw to use these materials
properly rand wisely, and so they
will -not be expensive, either.
There is another craft which
many of you may enjoy — it is
not top hard to do, (unless you
want to do it the way it was
done hundreds of yeah ago) and
it won't be expensive, either.
You can create many -
beautiful itmes with `Decoupage.'
— a process of usipg layer upon
layer of varnish and sanding
until vour print seems buried_--
deeply4n the ,,surface of the
wood. With today's methods of
special varnishes and plastics you
an have results in a very short
time and proudly display your
useful work of art to all your
friends,
b Oh, there are many nice
things to do, useful and
satisfying — and relaxing.
So think about it, NOV. We
have to know right away about
'your interests so that teachers
and schedules can be arranged.
So, there you are — call 'me
524-7854 if you can't get hold
of Bob (lough - 52.1-6156. You
can `usually catch me,early in the

Did you mark your calendar
for October 2, with the I.O.D.E.
"Wine and Cheese Fest?" The

that you can try all these
interesting cheeses from namy
-countries —.as are the fine "•"ines:
Every little whipstitch there
will be some. entertainment' —
and you ' will be pleasantly,
surprised with the entertainers.
if you have a big dance to go
t`o or some .other "DO" planned
for this same' evening, it will
to .
make an interesting stop over
before you go on to other
things, as it starts early and will
really set up your evening..
It' will soon be time 'to get
