Mart —a and we should call it
"Art Mart And Goderich Days".
How about THAT? „
Art Mart -will, be, July 15, 16,
.17 this year and Goderich has'
certainly become a large part of
what started out to be just a
colorful Art Exhibit held out of
doors.
Will you ever forget our first
one held on the tarmac beside
the Post Office? Many of you ••
would not know about it — but
it started outas a trial thing and
was held where there was not a
tree 'or bit of shade. Everyone
it . dyed „was burned • to , a crisp
and the wind was icy cold the
whole -three days. We had invited
all the little Art Clubs from here
to..._Qwen Sound — a 50 • or 60
mile radius and it was mostly
beginners!--4work-w •• whish—.was•
shown — and that was mainly
what it s for — to encourage
the ' beers" to show and
improve their work by seeing
what others were -doing.
' Well; it really went over with:
a bang!
The next year it was held in
Courthouse park. One of- the
Councillors at that time
suggested it, but I was timid•
about asking. I'spoke to Mrs. D.
D. Mooney who was Mayor at
that time and she said we should
have had the first •one there. I
explained that I feared the grass
would be trampled to death —
but "We .can always ,grow
grass!" was her' reply and since
then it has been • in our
beautifully treed Courthouse
Park. •
