f at ='QOPE ICH $tri."sNAL'S A t,T:VftBD 'IF Somewhere in ' town ,a youngster has convinced his or her mother that he has FOUND something --- and that is the end of that. Oh, mother probably asked a e few questions but that is as far as she bothered to go. Children often find things and they easily convince their parents that they should keep their find. The FIND this time is a nice little watch with a black: band e that a cute wee blonde forgot to leave at home. In her innocence she left it with her clothes at the beach and went in swimming. She is just learning .to swim, so the safety cif• her precious watch never entered her mind. Now she is heartbroken, her mother and dad are very upset but keep telling her it may still be returned. They say it hopefully. I don't think they are - really convinced. You can't expect 'a watch to ; be left unguarded and still be o there when you home " back altho she said a man and a lady were sitting right near it — a child's faith that grownups will look after things whether they know you or not! "The Prettiest Town" is , most certainly Goderich, mainly because we have citizens who enjoy making it so. When you see the beautiful flower studies which ` the Horticulture , . Society folks created — plainly seen in our editor's photos in just black and white — you must realize how much good work this group has done over the years and .how. much will be learned this coming winter. One little sour note — ,,or thorn in the side of so many of our gardeners — is that the garden .refuse has• to sit so long before pickup. I don't know what can be done about this but everywhere you go people are grumbling , because non -garbage. type stuff has to sit around so long. - All gardeners have their compost heaps and so take care 'of a,lot of their own refuse — but now that junky stuff can't be taken to the dump It has to sit and the earwig pest is breeding like mad beneath it anti just 'driving people out of their minds.. What can be done about it? ° , , lis* Michael York Cartoon Judy Bell, left, of 'Kincardine, was winner of the Ladies Invitational Golf Tournament played at the Maitland Golf and Country Club, Goderich, Wednesday, July 22.
