WALKATHON `The ._ North Ashfield School Walkathon on Saturday had between 350-400 walkers aged from five to 50 years taking part. Most of these pompleted the 17 -mile route over gravel roads uphill and down vale, stopping for refreshments at strategic points! Colonel k.W. Ryan,. Base Commander CFB Clinton, prepares to open phase out party activities while Lieutenant Colonel O.E. Warner Commandant, Radar and Communications School, Lieutenant Commander P.A. Scott Commandant Warrant Officers School and Lieutenant Colonel OH. Hack Commandant School of Instructional Technique look on. The cake was designed by Corporal R.A. ,Mackey, Food Services Section, and commemorates the existence of RCAF Station/CFS Clinton from 14 October, 1943 to present. The party was held May 30. Clinton phase out party held On Saturday May 30, CFB Clinton was the scene of a sad, but gala event. Sawdust on' the floor and saddles on the fence indicated it was time for the' Saturday night hoe-down. Hip of beef and weiners. and beans were the specialities for the evening. "Tahiti Tiri" located on the balcony . was decorated in a `'Polynesian and Hawaiian theme: A Tile ` overlooked the dance floor area • and welcomed personnel to relax under the palms. Stately palm trees stood beside the stairway entrance which was. ' adorned with Polynesian flowers. A map • of the Hawaiian islands set the stage for the journey to the islands in the sun. Red checkered table cloths and candlelight added to the atmosphere under the mock thatched roof of the Okolehao. -The menu included such'tid bits as Hawaiian sweet and pungent pork and Hawaiian salad For the historical minded reader, Clinton fist opened its- gates in 1941 under the leadership of Wing Commander A.
