Thankoffering service held.
at .Knox United Church,
Pray for the Canadian Indian,
and especially the Indians on the
Saugeen Indian Reser4e was. the
final plea of Pastor A, Bowden
when he spoke to the
4 Thanksgiving Thankoffering held
in Knox United, Church last
Wednesday evening.
Pastor Bowden, who has been
on the Saugeen reserve for six
years told about the way of life
there. He spoke of the work that
he and his wife do, the churches
at .Chippewa and the Reserve
that they serve. He described the
living conditions and told about
4, the changes planned by the
Department of Indian Affairs..
Pastor Bowden stated people
should be more concerned about
all citizens. He said that Indian
children are now being brought
into schools with white children
and mentioned that Indians are
going on out into the world and
doing well in business.
Pastor Bowden was
introduced by Mrs. A. Fry and
thanked by Mrs. Maurice Bean.
Guests from Dungannon,
Nile, Donnybrook, Westfield and
the churches in the village were
welcomed .by Mrs. Bert Marsh
and Mrs. George Millian.

The service was conducted by
Mrs. Norman McClinchey with
Mrs. Norman Wightman at the
piano. The devotional period
was led by Mrs. Dorothy Grange
and she gave the meditation on
Thanksgiving. Mrs. McClinchey
led ih prayer.
A duet was sung by Misses
Betty Moss and Jennifer Grange.
The offering was received by
Mrs. William L. Craig and Mrs.
George Hallam and dedicated
with prayer by Mrs. McClinchey.

President Mrs. Frank Raithby
welcomed all.
Mrs. Fordyce Clark,' Mrs.
Pearl Watson and Mrs. Donald
Haines served the lunch.

conducted a memorial service
for the late Mrs. William J. Craig
who was a charter member of
the Auburn . W.I. Mrs. Donald.
Haines and Mrs. Bradnock sang a
duet accompanied by Mrs.
Robert J. Phillips _on the piano.
Mrs. Thomas Haggitt.,
introduced the. gdest speaker of
the afternoon, Miss Marjorie
Sykes, Wingham, a public health
nurse with the Huron County
Health Unit.
Miss Sykes told the various
duties of each officer in the Unit
'and chose as her message, "You
and Your Health."
• She was thanked by Mrs. Ed
Davies and presented with a gift
from the members.
Mrs. Raithby conducted the
business meeting. Mrs. Gordon
Chamn2y, assistant secretary,
read the minutes of the
Executive meeting held at the

Mrs. Donald Haines was
chosen delegate to the London
Area convention on November
12- and 13 at St. Thomas. ,
Mrs. Lawrence Plaetzer, Mrs.
Thomas Haggitt, Mrs. Arnold
Craig, Mrs. Robert J. Phillips and
Mrs. Andrew Kirkconnell were
appointed to look after the
lunch booth at the rummage
sale..
It was decided to cater to the
comity road men's annual -
.banquet November 5 and Mrs.
Donald Haines was appointed to
convene the kitchen and Mrs. W.
Bradnock, the dining room.
Mrs. Raithby announced the
storage of the picnic tables in
the garage of Mr. and Mrs.
Torrance Tabb. Mrs. Lawrence
Plaetzer and Mks. Roy Daer were
appointed to convene the
wedding dinner on November
22.
Mrs. Andrew Kirkconnell
presented the card report and
read the thank -you notes
received.
It was announced that 4-H
Achievement day will be held
November 15 at Auburn.
An invitation to attend was
extended to all W.I. members
and mothers., - r\
A report on the Huronview
auxiliary meeting was given and
the Auburn group served the tea.
Roll Call was answered by
each telling their favorite home
remedy. ,
There will be classes for the
short course in the "Main Dish
Makes The Meal" with Mrs.
Donald Cartwright and Mrs.
Eldon,MacLennan as leaders.
An accordion and vocal solo
was given by Mrs. Gordon
,Taylor.
Glenn Youngblut of
Dartmouth, Nova Scotia spent
the weekend with'_ his mother,
Mrs. Ralph Munro. He was
enroute to a conference ' in
Calgary, Alberta. Mrs. Munro
accompanied him to London
Sunday and visited with Mr. and
Mrs. Donald Youngblut end
family.
Ed .Haines of the University
of Waterloo spent the weekend
with his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Donald Haines.
Miss Brenda East of McMaster
University of Hamilton spent the
weekend at home with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ted East
and Miss Karen East.
Robert Chimney returned
recently from a visit in Windsor
with his son Herman Chamney

Mr. and Mrs. Maitland Allen
returned last weekend from a
two week visit with Peter Brown
of Windsor. While there they
enjoyed a Scottish concert by
the Alexander Bros. of Scotland
in the Ford auditorium in
Detroit.

4-H conference
starts November 13
The cream o1 Canada's 4-1-1
Club membership will invade
Ottawa on November '13 to
attend the' 38th National 4-1.1
Club Conference. 148
award-winning delegates,
including eight from the United
States, will participate in
sessions- designed_to_ broaden_the
delegates knowledge of Canada,
its government and the 4-H
movement.
Among the highlights this
year will be a special showing at
the McLaughlin Planetarium,
Royal Ontario Museum, where
the group will view a .60 minute
presentation - entitled "The
World of the Moon".
Certificates of Canadian
citizenship will be presented to
each delegate in Ottawa. Dr. J.
M. Nesbitt of Winnipeg will be
the conference discussion leader,
Subjects which the 4-1-I members
will be considering in their
discussion groups will include
citizenship, personal
development, unity and aspects
of our governmental system.
The Conference, organized
and' financed annually by the
Canadian Council on 4-H Clubs,
will be airlifted to Toronto on
Saturday, November 15, where
the delegates will continue their
discussion sessions and be hosted
a t several banquets and
educational tours.

Miss Sherry Plaetzer
conducted a contest. The winner
was Mrs. Ken Daer.
A piano solo, was played by
Miss Doreen McClinchey.
Mrs. Plunkett had a song
contest with five girls wearing
hats that represented songs. The
models were Misses Betty Moss,
Nancy Anderson", Sheron
Collins, Brenda East and =Karen
East. The winner was Mrs.
Dorothy Grange.
The bride-to-be Miss Laura
Daer and her mother, Mrs. Bert
Daer were escorted to the
decorated chairs on the
platform. Miss Brenda East
pinned a corsage on the guest of
honour and Mrs. Wilfred
Plunkett pinned one on her
mother.
An address of congratulations
was read by Mrs. Gordon Gross
'and gifts were presented by
Nancy Anderson, Betty Moss,
Karen East, Sherry Plaetzer,
Wanda Plaetzer, °Doreen
McClinchey.
Gifts were placed'on the table
by Miss Barbara Carter and a hat
of ribbon bows was made by
Brenda East. •
Laufa thanked everyone and
a delicious lunch was served.
Mrs. Harry Watson presented
a gift to' Mrs. W. Bradnock for
having the birthday nearest the
.meeting day.

The October U.C.W. meeting
was held last Tuesday evening in,
Donnybrook United Church
with Mrs. John Hildebrand in
charge, assisted by Mrs. Morley
Johnston and Mrs. Murray
Wilson.
Mrs. Hildebrand read the
scripture and the Thanksgiving
meditation.
Mrs.. Johnston gave two
readings. The Learning Game
was given.
Letters were read from
Margaret Roberts from Costa
Rica.
A contest was conducted.
Roll call was answered by
giving a white gift.
