The Goderich Signal-Star, 1969-08-07, Page 5• • With the people of the biggest part of Exeter, finally getting their heads above the mess and silt of a couple of weeks ago, one thing stands out in my mind as "outstanding" in the assistance • given • them by outsiders. I Have only had a glimpse into the routine of washing the hospital laundry — and I was • staggered by the continuous flow of large bags. Our hospital, is fortunate in having a well trained_stfl:,-.in the._... laundry dept. and a few more bags of difficult laundry, .I know; wouldn't bother them. They all know their jobs so well that they just hustle right into it. There is no clock watching or dawdling or running off the job for tea breaks or any other kind of breaks, they just WORK. They know that a mountain of • bags has to be reduced to nice flat piles of sweet smelling sheets and gowns and such and they don't fool Mound: There's no hard • raspy bedding leaving TI-IEIR laundry. They try to make it as nice as if it were their own. tt So what do they donate to another hospital in need? One whole day's work, overtime at that — and have you any idea how much it would 'be in dollars and cents ? I am ashamed to say that I • could not have given even half that much --- and .I happen to know that many who can well afford to give to this or other emergencies, just don't do it! Anyway, - - "Thanks girls and a tip of the famous old "Hat -lo" • to you, too!" Have you ,realized; now, `the value of our nice marina to our town? There are some people who are "AGIN" everything;, just for the sake of being contrary. Fifty years from now * when our kids read, the "Remember When" column., they will say, "We ,have a fine town in spite of them." And no thanks or plaques to remember:- them ememberthem by, either. In fact, there • s • • M • OT TAWA. .MAS/TA LOT, B'A`S/ER . THESE DAYS, %NSTEADOF SOLVING A PROBLEM, THEY SVBS/D/ZE /T HUGILLS For __-_BACK-HOE SERVICE PHONE 524-7170 would be little but ',rubble and decay, 50 years from now .if they have their way. So, let's say "Thank you', (and dig down a little deeper) to the far sighted people who are really working for the betterment of our nice town. I know it hflrts now, but your children will have -a much better place to live in and I can only hope they will appreciate it. I had a friendly little dig not long ago, for praising the parks board for work the harbour .board. had_dane._in-..brightening::. up the swings etc, etc, with colorful paint. Sorry, boys;, but I'm sure everyone realized .the mistake but ME! Speaking of mistakes -- and I shouldn't — the Kinnettes were given credit for many yew of the Sidewalk Cafe at Art Mart. Actually the gals of the I.O.D.E. had it until this year and made a fine showing. We were happy to have the Kin Gals take over. when they .decided it was too much work for '69. The editor goofed!) Whoops! - another , little error — the dates for the Christmas Fair at Carlow. It is on October not November 29! So check your calendars October 29 and November 1.
