It was a big day for Goderieh hockey fans Saturday when Gary
Doak of, the National liagey League's Boston Bruins was
marriedto a local girl4Vlany .of the big names in the NHL were in
town for the event and ywngsters had , a field day gathering
autographs. For the bride, the former Judith Isabelle Shore, it
was probably one of the most exciting any bride. could wish to
have. Television cameras and newsmen were on hand to record
the
event and she spent the day surrounded by

Rangers tie St CoIumban ii
• Goderich Rangers and St.
Columban soccer clubs drew 1-1
last Saturday in a game in St.
Columban:
St. Columban opened the
scoring midway through the first
half on a close in'shot by centre
forward Bill Melady. The,
remainder of the half was pretty
scrappy and rugged with neither
teatn_toduCing- too much open
soccer, and ended 1-0.
The second half began to
open up a bit; and the Rankers
took command. Many fine
attacks. .developed from the
Ranger half backs who beganto
secure the midfield play. On one
of these attacks inside right
George Love had a "sure thing"
for the equalizer, but it grazed
the wrong side of the crassbar
and . Goderich was still looking
far the tying goal.
It eventually carne from a
Tony Vandonger throw-inlate-in
the half. Tom Love shot a line
drive some 20 yards and found
the far corner of the net.
The tough and rugged St.
Columban squad kept the
Rangers at bay for the remainder
of the game, setting the scene
for an extremely interesting

Ashfield Township farmer,
William • Walter- Clare, 93, died,
early Wednesday, morning at his
home where he lived with his
son and daughter in law, Mr. and
Mrs. NV -alter Clare and family.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs.
Edwin (Mary) King, London;
sons, Leo, Montreal and Wafter,
Ashfield. Mass was held
Saturday at St. Joseph's Church,
Kingsbridge.
MRS. DAVID KING,
Mrs. Dave King (Sadie
Bushell), a resident of Goderich
-for the past nine months after
arriving from Teeswater, died
Monday June 9 at Alexandra
Marine and General Hospital.
She was a sister-in-law to Mrs.
Blaise Martin of this community.
The deceased is' resting at
Lodge Funeral home until
Thursday when Requiem Mass

Victoria Hospital, London, on
Friday, June 6. He was 16.
Mr. Straughan was born in
Godefich on May 15, 1953, the
son of Robert William Straughan
and . the former - Shirley
Campbell. He attended public
school here and was a studeneat
Goderich District Collegiate
Institute.
He Was active in Cubbing and
Boy. Scouts and was a member
of Knox Presbyterian churth.
Surviving with his parents are.
-ft sister, Colleen, at home;
Paternal Grandmother, Mrs.
Calmar (Amelia) Straughan,
Go'derich, Maternal
Grandmother, Mrs. Glenwood
(Winnifred) Campbell, Belfast.
The funeral service was held
'at Stiles Funeral.Hoine at 2 p.m.
on - Monday, .June 9, with Rev.
G. L. Royal officiating.

Interment was in Maitland
Cemetery. Pallbearers were
Wayne Sheardown, Dave
McConnell, 'Ed Miller, Rob
Jerry, Kenny Wettlauder and
Ropnie Hodge.
Flowerbearers were Tom

MRS. JESSIE McCARTNEY
.Mrs. Jessie Aileen McCartney
, of RR 2, Clinton, a- lifelong
resident of Goderich Township,
died May 30 at Clinton Public
Hospital at the age of 83. She
had been ill about five years.
Born 'Nov. 14, 1885, 'Mrs.
.MCCartney was a daughter of the
late Henry andMargaret Murphy
and was married in June of 1925
'to Harvey. McCartney' who .died
Ain. 3, 1967; ti'he McCartneys

Infant Connie Luanna
Robertson, 129 Palmerston St.,
died at Victoria Hospital -Sunday.
June 8. *.
She was born ifGoderich on
Sunday June 8, the daughter of
James Robertson and the former
Verna Carmichael. She was
predeceased by a brother, Scott
Vaughn in. May 1967.
Surviving with her parents is a
brother, James'Angus.
A private funeral service was
held at Stiles. Funeral Home with
Rev. Leonard Warr officiating*.
Interment was in Maitland'
Cemetery.

St. ' Paul's Anglican Church in
Clinton, is survived by , two
daughters, Mrs. William (June)
Johnston of Islington and Mrs.'
Peter (Aileen) Schulha of
Edmonton, _ •Alta., and two

Monday' afternoon -from Beattie
Funeral Home in Clinton with
Me Rev. J. S. Sharples of (Sb.
Paul's Church of fidating.
Interment followed ot Clinton
Cemetery.

and Harry Little, all
gye a t.nephews, and three
neighbors, Robin Thompson,
Jim Lobb and Walter Forbes.

.enjoyed a bus trip to Toronto.
The students, eight chaperons
and two of Chapman's buses of
Whitechurch arrived at Queen's
Park and were welcomed • by
Murray Gaunt, M. L. A.,
Huron -Bruce., They toured. the
Legislative Assembly and
Heritage Rooms in the
P a rl iamenf Buildings and
afterwards left for the Zoo.
Casa Loma, the Royal Ontario
Museum and the warship
"Haida" were • new sights of
interest fo most of the students.
The bus driver who was well
acquainted with Toronto, having
served on the police force for 18
years, took the students on a
tour to other interesting points.
Arrangements for .the trip
were completed with the
assistance Of Brian Markson, The
Coach House, Goderich.

Mrs. Jim Hayden's
enthusiastic school "tumblers"
performed at the Thompson
Nursing Home, Ripley, on
Tuesday afternoon. The Senior
Citizens were left almost
breathless after watching the
skilled youngsters go through

told them the Golden Rules of

artificial respiration_
