Ann !antlers 041 1 DINAR ANN LANDERS: My husband started ' to talk in his sleep when we moved from Cincinnati to Cleveland. I don't know what caused it. , Norville speaks slowly and distinctly and I can understand every word he says. He calls the girls fl the office by their names and asks for files on specific retail outlets. Sunday night Norville gave a splendid speech on the Glories of Procter and Gamble. Last night he dictated some very good letters. For , the last several weeks Norville has complained about waking gip dead tired and.. he ,can't figure out why. He says eight hours sleep has always been enough. I told him I wasn't surprised. He does a day's work between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. Do people whotalk in their sleep get a full night's rest? Sometimes I worry about Norville. Please check with some doctors and let me , know. — OHIO READER ' DEAR 0: It sounds as if Norville is getting more rest than you are, Lady. Sleep -talkers get as good a night's . rest as non -talkers, . so ' stop worrying about him. And how lucky you are that Norville speaks distinctly. Some women have written to say their husbands mumble in their sleep ,and it, drives 'em nuts. DEAR ANN LANDERS: Today I was waiting for my friend outside the church. We enjoy Sunday services together and haveyears. for several I was noticing how many young girls (and older women, too) take lack kerchiefs and chiffon shawls q` out of their' purses 'and cover their heads before they enter the house of God. Then I look again" and see that many of ,these women are half naked. They wear plunging necklines and midriffs that expose their bare stomachs. I've seen skirts which are so mini you can see what amounts to a burlesque show I humbly suggest that these women who • are so concerned about covering their heads concentrate on other parts. — OFFENDED IN MICHIGAN. DEAR MICH: Amen, Sister, Amen. DEAR ANN-LANDERS: Our 17 -year-old son has admitted he smokes marijuana "socially" on weekends' but insists he is not a fiabitual, smoker and can quit any time he wants to. R. claims calkers mariijuana is not harmful and that he is better off than his friends who smoke ,,cigarettes and drink alcohol. I was shocked but tried not to. show it. R. is a fine young man, a good student, and as thousands of mothers have said before me, "I never dreamed I would hear such words frommy son's lips." • I know the boy needs professional help but when I suggest it he says he has. no problem — that he is just adding enjoyment to his ' life. Please advise me. It's hard to appear calm when I'm frightened and heartsick. — GAPPED .DEAR GAPPED': You've done well — so far. Parents who want to keep the channel's of ,communication open must not register shock or anxiety when their kids drop such blockbusters. Arguing, threatening or preaching is useless. The, wise approach is to remind the son or daughter that marijuana is an illicit drug and anyone caught with the drug can be charged with a felony. And the penalties are stiff. . You might also say that from the reading you've done you've learned that niarijuana affects people differently, depending on -the strength of the weed and the emotional stability of the smoker. Some smokers merely get high, others become deeply intoxicated and totally disoriented. Moreover, it's a cop-out and a gutless approach to living.( DEAR ANN LANDERS: Two weeks ago Friday a buddy of mine called add asked if I would do him a favor and take his 'steady girl out. Moose had to work a second shift on short notice. He offered to pay for our dinners and movie tickets. When he handed me the money he said jokingly, "Take Hilda right home after the show. No fooling around." Well, Ann, I didn't exactly follow his instructions. That chick really turned me on and I ,. guess she dug me, too., We've been seeing each other secretly. We'd like to bring our feelings,' for each other out in the open but I'm afraid the guy will bust my head open. Hilda says she's afraid of what he might do to her, too. (They don't call him Moose for nothing.) We need help. What's the answer? — MINNESOTA MISERIES DEAR MINN: Hilda- should tell Moose that she wants to date .others and that he is free to do the same.
