John Vintar, 39, has been appointed Superintendent of Education by the Huron -Perth Counties Roman Catholic Separate . School Board. 'Eight" applicants bad been received for the position. Mr. Vintar is an inspector of schools with the Metropolitan Separate School Board in Toronto. where he has been employed for the past three years: Born in Timmins, he received his elementary and secondary schooling there. He attended Teachers' College in North Bay, taught at and was principal of elementary schools for eight years and in Toronto Teachers' College for seven • years. Mr, Vintar will commence his duties with the Huron -Perth Board sometime before August 1 — as soon as be can be released by the Toronto Board, Regional Director of Education, Mr. Bornhold, Waterloo, has announced that W. H. Bulger, iformer inspector of schools for this area, will act in a supervisory position until then. Approval has been received from the Department of Education- for the extension to St. Mary's- Separate School. St. ▪ Mary's has 127 students , in Grades 3 to 8. The addition will be for - five classrooms, gymnasium, teachers' and nurses' rooms, library, resource centre and stpiage area. Cost is set at 4310,000 and the. tender of Monteith arid McGrath Construction Ltd., Waterloo, has been accepted. The addition will replace the old St; Peter's School where space and land is inadequate. Presently there are 91. •students in St. Peter's, "-ranging .from kindergarten.to grade 3. The Board appointed two committees. The property committee will visit all separate schools in Huron and Perth and bring in a complete import of each school that will indicate the number of rooms, condition of each school and_ any _suggested improvements. The review v"vill incorporate reports given by the - retiring boards. GIRL GUIDES 1ST KINGSBRIDGE gOMPANY • On February 20, the Guides opened their meeting with' roll call with two absentees due to sickness. The girls formed a horseshoe and had another game 'on history given by'the Captain, Miss Betty De Bruyn, which proved to be fun. The guides then,went to their patrol corners and were able to try any of the tests they had previously missed. Most of the girls took advantage of this oppoi`tunity. They then had campfire and "The Swallows" had a• -few skits which were very good. Everyone learned a few new songs and the group closed with taps. NILE UCW The February meeting of Nile U.C.W. was held at the home of Mrs. Wilmer Rutledge with 12 members present. Mrs.. Doug -McNeil led in devotions and the hymn "In Christ there is no east or west" was sung. ` Mrs. , Harry Girvin presided for the business part of the meeting..
