The Goderich Signal-Star, 1969-02-27, Page 18' THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 27,1969 +,, .alaBtC SIGNAL -STAR, My Trip To St. Lambert By Allan Fritzley 1 am a Pee Wee Alstar, and just arrived 'borne frond an exciting trip to St.. Lambert, Quebec. The teams . left early Friday, December ,27 at 5:30 a.m,..by bus to Stratford. We got on 'a, train at..‹Stratford which, took us to Toronto. On the train we played checkers, cards, reed and slept if we could. We changed trains at Toronto for Montreal. At the Montreal station the St. Lambert team and their fathers took us in 'their cars through Montreal to their arena. At the arena we took our equipment to the storage rooms. Then we went to meet our billet's. Dave Nephew and I got to stay at the same house and our billet was Mr. and Mrs. .Maguire, and 'their son Chuck. Friday night Dave and4I went skating at the arena. The next. morning, Saturday at 11:00, we played St. Lambert and lost .7 to 1. After the game We had a very good lunch at the Lawn Bowl which wasn't very far from the arena, so we walked. After lunch_ we all •went on the subway, which was my first time. "We stopped many times at subway stations on our way to the Montreal Forum. In the Montreal subway station there is a big plaza which has three times as many stores .as Goderich and it's all in one building. Across from. the,big plaza is the new Monteal -Forum. It seats about 16,000 people in one, night. It has escalators to.carry people _up and down to the colour of seat they want to go to. After we saw the Forum we went back to St. Lambert on the subway. When we got back to our billets we ate supper. That night we watched the N.H.L: game on T.V., but some of,the boys were fortunate to go. to the game which _ was playedin the Forum-. • \ \\A ilizagahvi.strarter T ESSAY WINNERS Sunday was Hockey Festival Day in St: Lambert. A parade was planned for , that day in which our team was to rideon a float, but it was called off because of the stormy weather. There was a Festival Queen picked from five other girls representing different hockey teams from St. Lambert: There. was 'a colour T.V. 'anti bicycle drawn also that day. We played another game Sunday and lost t to 2. The rest of the day we had free to watch the other games. That night we went to bed early because we had to get up -early to leave for home. We all met at the 'arena Monday morning, ready to leave to the train station. When w(arrived at the station,, we all e said good-bye to our billet's and got on the train and left on . our long trip to Toronto. When we . arrived in Toronto we had three hours to spare, so we left our luggage in the baggage room. In that three hours we went bowling . in a 120 -lane bowling alley. We then went back to the train and there was a mix-up in the trains, so we had to wait a while longer. We were finally on our way home to Goderich, met the bus at Stratford and arrived home tired and happy! That 'night after supper we .played a game of road hockey which our team won 10 to 8, Then from 8 o'clock to 10 o'clock p.m. w,e went, skating.
