Saunders and Mise E. Roberts, and 61 aetive members. Seven °dew + members. took ,. their. affirmation. Ten regular meetings have been held with an average attendance of 20, Meetings are held in homeA Of members and at the `conclusion of the business the Tea Committee takes charge of the • Social hour.Each person contributes .small fee to cover the cost of refreshments and'the balance is put into a, "special fund" account which is used for flowers when members are hospitalized. Cards are sent to members on the occasion of a birth, illness or bereavement. In June we enjoyed a ` "pot -luck" ro supper at a member's summer cottage and our Christmas meeting and buffet supper party was held at Harbourlite Inn. Education • This department, under the direction of Mrs. J. Skeoch, has always been proud of the work done in the field of education, not only on the National and Provincial level, but also in Goderich. Two bursaries are given each year to secondary school graduates. Miss Patricia Wilgen won the $100 bursary and is continuing her studies to become a nurse. Miss Clarissa Lassaline was awarded the $150 bursary and is attending university. A trophy for general proficiency in grade 8, Goderich Public , School, was won by Debbie - Swanton, and Con ' Melady was the trophy winner for highest standing in social studies in grade '8, Goderich Separate School. Four student memberships for Community Concerts were purchased for use . AN 4 NUAL REPOR.T 1968 of Public and Separate School students. Services At Home and Abroad Mrs. S. C. Anderson and the members who worked for this department have set one of the highest records in the history of the Chapter. Wool , and flannelette were made up into knitted articles and baby layettes. Two hundred and • forty-nine articles, valued at $328 were packed for ove as shipment. Indian child en attending school on . Chris ian island were delighted with, toys, books and 72 articles of clothing sent to them before Christmas. Several patients in the local : hospital 'were remembered with gifts at. Christmas. -A cheque for $1,000 was presented to the Alexandra Marine and ' General Hospital toward our commitment for a medical record library. • The Red Cross Campaign was sponsored by the Chapter under the leadership of Mrs. F. Curry and members assisted with the canvass. We continue • to sponsor a Greek orphan through Save the Children Fund. A donation was made to the Girl Guide Association to send,a Guide to camp. McLellan, director of nursing services at the Alexandra Marine " and- General Hospital, showed coloured slides to illustrate her— talk erwtalk on her experiences while a nurse in Trinidad. Miss Arleata Pollock a grade 13 student spoke on "Hunger", the subct she chose for a school, speaking contest. Mrs. W. Kripps, Directress of Nursing, Goderich Psychiatric Hospital, spoke on the "Relationship o the Guidance Bureau of Child Care, and Family Services." Immigration and Citizenship ' The convenor, Mrs. G. L. Royal, entgrtained 14 new Canadian ' citizens following a Citizenship Court '`ceremony. I.O,D.E. greeting cards were presented and members were present ,to assist. Judge R. Hetherington.. presided at the Citizenship Court. Public Relations The Chapter has been before the public on many occasions. Excellent press , relations are enjoyed . with our local newspaper, . The Goderich Sighal-Star. We wish to express our appreciation at this time. Mrs. M. Rayner, the convenor, has kept a scrapbook up to date with ° newspaper clipping, pictures etc, of I.O.D.E. work. Besides giving the Chapter revenue we feel that we perform a service by providing clothing at little cost._ Special Events. One orothe .highlights of the year for, the Maple Leaf Chapter w=in honour of Miss`Josie The _ _membership. convenor, Mrs. J, Remington, opened her home for this event. Guests were members of the 'Chapter. Miss Saynders was, presented with her 50 -year pin - and,: cut ' the 50th anniversary cake. At the Christmas party, Mrs. D. C. Aberhart received her 25 -year pin. In June several members were hostesses in their home for a Dessert Bridge. Other members assisted the hostesses. Many guests enjoyed this early summer party. In July the annual "Sidewalk Cafe" was held in Court House Park in co-operation with the Art and Crafts Mart. Coffee and light refreshments, were served to visitors who browsed around the exhibits. Echoes The Echoes secretary, Mrs. S. Hadden," reported important events to our national magazine. Standard Bearer Mrs. M. McGill carriedy ours ' flag atseveral meetings. The flag was present at the service at the cenotaph on Remebrance Day and at the church. parade. Delegates Two delegates attended the annual meeting in Hamilton and brought back detailed reports. Five members were. present at a worksh$p held in Owen Sound. Donations Generous donations were made to the following Provincial and, National funds: Travel and Exchange Committee, commonwealth Relations, Second War '. Memorial, Peace Garden, Overseas Relief, National Shipping, ' National Employees' Pension, Korean Projects, -Lucy Morrison Memorial, Provincial Services, and Film. Under the leadership of the Regent, Mrs. B. Ainslie, and with fine° co=operationof the officers and , convenors, the Maple Leaf Chapter has had a rewarding year. .
