The Goderich Signal-Star, 1969-02-27, Page 9yMr.. J. J. l iavelik,,,president of.
Havelik Industries, Preston, in a
recent address to the Goderich
'.Lions n Club .spoke pn
"Czechoslovakia ,some hundreds
of years ago and Czechoslovakia
today."
Mr. Havelik was. born and
educated in Prague. His parents
owned a small machine industry
employing 1,700 people. The
company was lost during the
first . Russian invasion of
Czechoslovakia. Mr,. Havelik
- -escaped to Switzerland, travelled
to the United States, Ireland,
finally selecting Canada, as his
adopted country.
He• established Havelik
Industries in Preston 19 years
ago. This industry 'is known
throughout the world for their
production of airplane part's and
small machine parts.
' Mr. Havelik stated "a
Canadian can never have the
same fear or feeling that we
European immigrants have. We
have been through many kinds
of `isms' which have, as yet, not
directly controlled anada. We
are very closely watching the
trend of Canadian politics. This
' trend seems to be going the way
of past history. Many, Canadians
have spoken to me lately
concerting', this. ALwa. s their
feeling is that it could.Happen
to us." • '
Mr. Havelik believes the
situation in Canada presently to
be similar tothat of
Czechoslovakia in 1939. "New
Canadians can feel the disunity
among the Canadian politicians.
Waterloo South is a real
lexaniple. Many of the people did
not agree with the two party
policy so went to the .other
extreme in their electisino This is
bringing Canada closer - to
political chaos, mistrust and in
the end history will repeat itself.
"So you can see how we feel,
especially my countrymen, when
we lost one and a half _million
people during the last world war
fightini /for freedom. We see the
Canadian politician playing. a
dangerous game and especially
playing with communism.';" .Y
Mr., Havelik mould like to see
some of our politicians take a
trip, not on a "red carpet," to
see communistic countries and
get the feeling of the
communistic freedom.
"Let, us hope there will be
more people of my feeling and
the Canadian nation will wake
up and prevent the disaster
which some Canadian politicians
are bringing to kill the only, and
best., free `country in the world
today, Canada." ,
