They edged Owen Sound 3-1 Friday night, and won again over Waterloo on Saturday night by a score of 5-3. • Friday night's game with Owen Sound Greys was a close battle all the way. At the end of the first period neither team had scored. However it was a period marred by constant pen. allies; infractions of tripping, interference, high sticking, slashing, holding and elbowing, were charged almost 'equally to the two clubs. Of the. nine minor charges in the first period, Owen Sound drew four and Goderich five. Later in the period, the Siskins threatened .to tie the game when they connected for two goals witfiin minutes of each other, Goderich added an assurance goal in the, third period while holding Waterloo scoreless to put the game in the bag. Owen Freeman, a Windsor import who plays centre on the local Junior B club, paced the Siftos' Saturday night; victory with two goals. An interesting sidelight to Saturday night's game was the presence amongst the specta- tors of Owen Freeman's parents. OHA JUNIOR B SportsSee. nee By Sandy MacDonald A schedule for ice -time at the Goderich Memorial Arena has been prepared and 4s now displayed on the corridor wall opposite the dressing rooms. the arena Management committee iskeeping the doors,. open seven days ,a week in order to provide Goderich and area citizens with maximum use of the ice sheet. A breakdown of the schedule indicates the clubs and groups that now use the arena. Sunday at 10 a.m. a Central Huron Hockey League: team begins a one -.-hour practise. Later in the day, public skating is featured; office in the afternoon from 2 to 4 and in the evening from 8 to 10. - Monday's arena program begins at 4:30 ppm. when a: series of Goderich Minor League Hockey games get under way; Mites take to the ice at 4:30, followed, by the Squirts at 5:30, Bantams at 7 and Midgets at 9 p.m. As . mentioned before in the Signal -Star, the Goderich Lions Club is sponsoring free skating fors pre-schoolers and beginners Tuesday afternoons from 2 to 3:30 and for public schoolers from 3:30 until 5 p.m., Bantams and Midgets are given practise time later which extends to 8:30 p.m. At that point a double-header of CHHL hockey is featured which might last until nearly midnight. Wednesday at 4:30 the Pee Wees practise; as the season advances and an all-star team is chosen, the Pee Wee division of Goderich's minor hockey league will possibly be playing home - games, with visiting teams at this time. Following Pee 'Wee hockey, the Goderich Junior B team, the Siftos, take to the ice at 6 p.m. for a workout and practice under coach Jack Evans. More CHHL. hockey action takes place at 8:30 p.m.. As evidenced by the arena schedule, it appears that Goderich will definitely have a Juvenile hockey club, this year. They are slated for ice -time at 6:3a Thursday evening. Until a schedule is prepared, we can expect to see only a practice session at this time, but eventually Goderich hockey fans can expect some fast, exciting hockey action from the juveniles when they entertain visiting.hockey clubs. For the -balance of Thursday evening, a couple of nockey--for. fun" groups from town get on the ice and fool around for an hour or so. The Old Timers, (members of the OHA Al -Ontario Junior C championship team of 20 years ago) represent onetgroup; _ the Signal -Star's next door neighbors on West Street, B. M. Ross' surveyors and engineers, also bang the puck around,.Thursday night. It's been reported that members of the Goderich detachment of the OPP are also limbering up some unused portions of their anatomy with weekly Thursday night hockey sessions at the arena. Friday night, as the majority of Goderich citizens well, know, the arena program features Junior B hockey when the Siftos play a_ visiting club from either central or western division of the OHA Junior B league. Mem- bership .in the town's figure skating club is growing each year as is• the achievements of the members. National basic figure skating tests will be continued, a policy which the club has adopted in previous years. It was announced by the club that several children would be receiving awards for their results in these tests early in January. Saturday night public skating was not well attended last week according, to a report from arena manager Bill Lumby. He indicated that the public skating scheduled for this time might be changed later -in the season to provide ice -time for Juvenile hockey games when their schedule gets into full swing.
