After a doubtful start, the

the weekend. They edged Owen
Sound 3-1 Friday night, and
won again over Waterloo on
Saturday night by a score of

• Friday night's game with
Owen Sound Greys was a close
battle all the way. At the end
of the first period neither team
had scored. However it was a
period marred by constant pen.

Later in the period, the Siskins

A schedule for ice -time at the Goderich Memorial Arena has
been prepared and 4s now displayed on the corridor wall opposite
the dressing rooms. the arena Management committee iskeeping
the doors,. open seven days ,a week in order to provide Goderich
and area citizens with maximum use of the ice sheet.
A breakdown of the schedule indicates the clubs and groups
that now use the arena. Sunday at 10 a.m. a Central Huron
Hockey League: team begins a one -.-hour practise. Later in the
day, public skating is featured; office in the afternoon from 2 to
4 and in the evening from 8 to 10. -
Monday's arena program begins at 4:30 ppm. when a: series
of Goderich Minor League Hockey games get under way; Mites
take to the ice at 4:30, followed, by the Squirts at 5:30, Bantams
at 7 and Midgets at 9 p.m.
As . mentioned before in the Signal -Star, the Goderich Lions
Club is sponsoring free skating fors pre-schoolers and beginners
Tuesday afternoons from 2 to 3:30 and for public schoolers from
3:30 until 5 p.m., Bantams and Midgets are given practise time
later which extends to 8:30 p.m. At that point a double-header
of CHHL hockey is featured which might last until nearly midnight.
Wednesday at 4:30 the Pee Wees practise; as the season
advances and an all-star team is chosen, the Pee Wee division
of Goderich's minor hockey league will possibly be playing home -
games, with visiting teams at this time.
Following Pee 'Wee hockey, the Goderich Junior B team, the
Siftos, take to the ice at 6 p.m. for a workout and practice under
coach Jack Evans. More CHHL. hockey action takes place at
8:30 p.m..
As evidenced by the arena schedule, it appears that Goderich
will definitely have a Juvenile hockey club, this year. They are
slated for ice -time at 6:3a Thursday evening. Until a schedule
is prepared, we can expect to see only a practice session at this
time, but eventually Goderich hockey fans can expect some fast,
exciting hockey action from the juveniles when they entertain
visiting.hockey clubs.
For the -balance of Thursday evening, a couple of nockey--for.
fun" groups from town get on the ice and fool around for an hour
or so. The Old Timers, (members of the OHA Al -Ontario Junior
C championship team of 20 years ago) represent onetgroup;
_ the Signal -Star's next door neighbors on West Street, B. M. Ross'
surveyors and engineers, also bang the puck around,.Thursday
night. It's been reported that members of the Goderich detachment
of the OPP are also limbering up some unused portions of their
anatomy with weekly Thursday night hockey sessions at the arena.
Friday night, as the majority of Goderich citizens well, know,
the arena program features Junior B hockey when the Siftos play
a_ visiting club from either central or western division of the
OHA Junior B league.
Saturday mor ing the arena doors are open at 7 o'clock to
allow a group ei minor leaguers to dress -for a..7:30 game, the
first of a' Saturday morning, series of minor league hockey. •
At_1 p.m. the Goderich Figure Skating Club whirl. and pirouette
through their weekly practice under the direction of Robert
McCrabb, who_ was re -appointed for the 1967-68 season. Mem-
bership .in the town's figure skating club is growing each year
as is• the achievements of the members. National basic figure
skating tests will be continued, a policy which the club has adopted
in previous years. It was announced by the club that several
children would be receiving awards for their results in these
tests early in January.
Saturday night public skating was not well attended last week
according, to a report from arena manager Bill Lumby. He indicated
that the public skating scheduled for this time might be changed
later -in the season to provide ice -time for Juvenile hockey games
when their schedule gets into full swing.
