The Goderich Signal-Star, 1966-10-20, Page 9Anglicans To Hear Bishop p# P.oiynesia Anglicans from churches across Huron County will meet this Friday in St. George's{ Church, Goderich, to hear one of the youngest and most dynamic Bishops of the Anglican Church. Rt. Rev. J. C. Vockler bccarne LawgZ47, •4r r BISHOP VOCKLER a bishop seven years ago at the age of 35. His Diocese of Polynesia is the largest. in area of any in the world-wide Angli- can Communion, although it has been described as "mostly wind and water" It covers an area of 11,000,000 square miles in .the South Pacific, and straddles the International Date Line. This means that Bishop Vo.ekler can leave Fiji one day, fly for 4'9 hours, and arrive in Samoa the day before-r:all without leaving his diocese. The diocese includes the Fiji Islands and the Gilbert and Ellis Islands which are British Colon. les, Tonga which is a self -govern• ing kingdom, Western Samoa now- independant but formerly a New Zealand Trust Teritory and ''Tahiti which is French. The service, to which all mem- bers of the public Will be wel• coiled, .viii begin at 8 pm. and will be conducted by the Rector of St. George's, The Rev_ G. G. Russell, and the Rural Dean of, Huron°; the Rev. J. P. Gandon, Exeter. Joint choirs from Huron County's Anglican churches will lead the singing. Following the service there is to be an in• formal coffee hour in the Parish Hall so that members of the congregation may chat with the bishop and ask him questions. The service is one of a series of eleven at which Bishop Vock• ler will speak* during his visit to -the Anglican Diocese of Huron. A dancer' who has had. star billing with some of the world's great ballet companies Mr. Mauls had as his !partner the talented 'Callen Corkre. Miss Corkre's background has been in Broadway Musicals (inc}udini "My Fair Lady") as well as in .classical ballet., So they were well qualified to plan and chore- 5graph a variety .program such as this. Their guest artists, .Thatcher Clarke, a former soloist in Mar- got Fonteyn's ensemble. and Jeanne, Marie•Awbert, a product of Europe's best teachers and a newcomer to America appeared to be their equals in grace and skill. This highly trained profession- al- troupe -was -supported- by -ex- uellen't orchestrations on -`tape- as well as by the new lights generously loaned by our Gode- rich Little Theatre. Each artist introduced himself and one num- ber in an easy, chatty fashion which established an excellent rapport with the audience. The program opened with a Pas de Deux in the classuri'cal style from the Nutcracker, beaut- ifully danced by Michael Malule and Miss Aubert. lit was fol- lowed by a "fun" piece, Ballet versus, Jazz in which the tradi- tional music for •barre exercises turnedinto jazz and which in - your business ready fo J I r expansion?
