Mrs. Harvey McDo+wiell was in
charge and Jannetta Snell was
the organist. The 'Scripture and
meditation was taken by MTs.
Bill 'Taylor followed by prayer
by MTs. Hugh Blek. Readings
were given by a former mem-
ber, Mrs. Stanley Cook of Bel-
grave. Judy McDowell sang a
solo,. The thankoffering was re-
ceived by Mrs. Gerald McDowell
and Mrs. Peter Verbeeic, and de-
dicated by Mrs. McDowell.
Mrs. Howard Campbell intro-
duced Gwen McDowell. She gave
a detailed, illustrated address on
her work this past summer In
northern Quebec on' Operation
Beaver. She assisted in the
building of a friendship centre
through the Christian Council
of Churches a't..,,Lac Doric a
small town, 500 miles north of
Montreal. This ecunemical work
camp was led by a director from
Zambia and the 20 members
were from many , countries a-
round the world. Mrs. Charles
Smith thanked Miss McDowell.

its work the last years in sup-
porting the. Canadian Bible So-
ci.ety•-at. the annual -meeting .field
in the Sunday School room 'of
Auburn Baptist Church.
Torrance Tabb led the meet-
ing. Minutes were read by Mrs.
Thomas Haggitt who said that
$317.53 had been sent in from
this community. Plans were
made to 'hold the annual carol
service Dec. 18 in the Baptist
Church.
..MT. Brndjar spoke about the
Bible display and the work of
the society throughout the
wo•4d. He also showed a film
on canvassers at their work
and how they overcome many
problems.

the fourth meeting of the Au-
burn Cooking Cuties 4H C1ub,
held at the home of the leader,
Mrs. Wes Bradnook. Minutes
were read by Ruth ,.Berg. The
roll .call was answered by each
telling of a dessert suitable for
supper. The girls discussed
planned good' meals and the
use of left over foods. How
to use meat and meat alternates
was explained and Mrs. Frank
Raithby demonstrate& how to
make a nice and cheese dish
and Mrs'. 'Bradnock assisted the'
girl's makingcheese Fondue.

Britain recently introduced a
70 mph Speed limit. Prelimin-
ary studies indicate that this
has been followed by a singifi-
eant reduction in fatalities and
serious injuries. The speed
limit was not raised to 70 m,p,h,
but lowered from the previous
"no limit."

Christian Stewardship was
.the theme of the meeting of
the United Church Women of
Knox United Church last week.
Soft hymn music was played
by MTs. James Jackson while
the members were assembling,.
The call to worship was given
by Mrs. Oliver Anderson. The
minutes were read by the secre-
tary, Miss Elma Mutch. Mrs.
Norman McDowell, treasurer
gave bhe financial statement.
Mrs. Brian Hallam has been
appointed leader' of the Mess-
engers group, with Miss Brenda
Ball an assistant. 'Mrs. Robert
Turner reported for the Manse
and kitchen committees.. Marg-
aret R. Jackson read the thank-
you notes received during the
summer months. Mrs. Ralph
Munro reported for the nomin-
ating committee and Mrs. Ar-
thur Grange brought the report
fram the official board• which
she had attended at Blyth. Mays.
.William Empey reported for the
supply and members voted' to
send money to defray shipping
expenses on bales. Everyone
was invited to attend the Pres-
byterial of the UCW to be held
at Nile on October 25. Plans
were made for 'the Autumn
Thankoffering when other soc-
ieties will be 'invited.

the devotional pedtiod with Mrs.
Janes Jackson at . the piano.

Scripture and Mitis. George Mi-
lian led in pray. Mrs. Arthur
Grange introduced Mrs. Wes

unit.
