BACTERIAL DANDRUFF
A tiny particle of dust floats
through the air --so small that
unless it crosses the winnow
through,the sunlight the human
eye can never catch. its image.
On , this miniature world tens
1- thousands -of tiny bacteria
are engaged in reproduction
and feeding. Their life-long
journey lasts perhaps the dis-
tance from the window to your
chair..Yet, untold tens of thou_
sands of their offspring are
being reproduced during this
journey. These bacterial immi-
grants have food, warmth, mois-
ture -all the necessary in-
gredients to grow and -spread
their colonies throughout their
new home, your hair and scalp.
And as they carve and feed their
way throughout the scalp, ir-
ritation and itchiness are the
by-products left to their host.
It is estimated that 84.0659
of 'all adults in the United
States and Canada 'have some
type of dandruff. And there is
very little' doubt that everyone
of them have', tried either a
"dandruff rinse" or a "dandruff
shampoo", and most have tried
both. "Dandruff Shampoos" are
listed among the largest selling
shampoos on the market and
"dandruff rinses" ARE the tars_
est selling rinses.
NEW dandruff shampoos and
dandruff rinses appear osi the
average of every three months.
The initial sales of both ,these
products have been pheno-
menal; yet repeat sales have
been just as phenomenally low.
This points out two very pert-
inent facts: (1) Most people
have dandruff and (2) "dandruff
shampoos" and "d a it d ruff
rinses" obviously do not do
what they are supposed to do -
control dandruff.
The entire world today is en-
gulfed' in the field of science.
Yet for some unaccountable
reason, science up to now has
not appeared on the "dandruff"
horizon. The antiquated and
inept 'metrods Of "treating"
dandruff with old-fashioned
shampoos and rinses still per-
sist. It is undersfandablle why
dandruff continues to be a uni-
versal problem.
With this thought in mind,
Redken Laboratories began in

February, 1962, research ihto,.,af,
effective, method 'of controllifi`g
dandruff. In. March o ' 964 the
completion of an actual. control
was accomplished. Professional
testing of the remedy began
immediately and the results
were-, far beyond expectations.
Of 1,837 actual recorded :cases.
1,804 were completely relieved
of all ;itching, sealing and other
symptoms of dandruff. Clinical
testing was begun on 800
patients by one of the world's
leading dermatologists. Results
are unpredictably amazing. The
tests being conducted by Irwin
I. Lubawe, M.D., F.A.C.A., are
the first such Clinical tests ever
undertaken by the beauty manu-
facturing profession.
We believe that this new
remedy called C.M.X. is the
answer to ;the dandruff prob-
lem. C.M.X. is neither .a rinse
nor a shampoo but is a specific
treatment for dandruff. We:be-
lieve, as does Dr. Lubawe, that
a dandruff condition needs
something more persuasive than
shampooing or a•insing alone,
and that certain something is
C.M.X.
C.M.X. is antiseptic, bacterial,
germicidal.
C.M.X. is fungicidal, effective
against gram positive and gram
negative bacteria.
C.M.X. is substanitive to the
scalp and skin, and its beneficial
action continues even after the
application itself has been
shampooed from the scalp.
C.M.X. is non-toxic, noncor-
rosive, non -irritating, non -sen-
sitizing.
Not only does C.M.X. have the
ability to -relieve dandruff but
it also bestows upon the hair a
pleasing sheen and makes the
hair very, very,manageable.
For anyone, adult or child,
who cannot come into The
Beauty Lounge for dandruff
treatments. phone and we will
prepare your treatment for us(
at home. After relief is obtained
C.M,X. used at five-week inter-,
Vials can prevent the appearance
of dandruff and may therefore
be used as ".specific" toward
the prevention of dandruff in
both children and adults.
,Next week: Phynal Phase.
