YOUR HOSPITAL IS
A HEALTHY. LOCAL
INDUSTRY
(BIG HEARTED
Our thermometer, showingow
our fund-raising campaign is going,
will jump $15,000.00 this week. This
is just about the- amount that was
contributed by the medical staff and
--the °the hospital -employees:- Their help -- —
is greatly appreciated.
Your hospital never closes. It is
ready for action 24 . hours a day,
seven days a week. Whether you
freed your hospital at 2 a.m: Sunday
morning or 2 p.m. on Thursday they
are- always ready: This means not
only doctors,. nurses, orderlies, X-
ray staff, etc., with whom we are
all -familiar, but many important
people we probably never' see, such
as technicians, dietitians, mainten-
ance, ? laundry - workers, . kitchen
staff, housekeepers and specialized
office personnel. Without a modern,
well -staged hospital, our hospital-
. ization and medical .plans are not
much good to us.
The Alexandra Marine and.
General Hospital employs over 100
people. It is one of the major sources
of employment in the entire com-
munity. A good hospital is a great
asset • to the area. and 'is certainly
. one ,of the things a new industry
looks for when it is deciding where
to locate.
During 1965, the earnings from
services to patients were $481,000.00.
Over 85 of this money was spent
right here in the community for
salaries and services. There are
not many industries with a bigger
payroll, particularly on a year after
year basis.
Go down and take a look' at the
progress of the new building. Con-
TOOJ
struction is right on schedule and
the opening is scheduled for late
this year. We must be prepared to -.
meet our payments as construction
„goes on. We must go over the top.
Here. is your weekly report:
The good news this week. is•
the wonderful support of the labor
organizations. They met with the
building fund committee, and after
asking many questions and boring
into the problem, offered their 100
co-operation for our canvass. Their
offer is gratefully accepted. - -
The rural committee got in
some `more of ' their calls dur-
ing the couple of rainy days last
week.. Their returns look good and
should be all in within a week.
The local businessmen will com-
plete their calls this week.
The special group will also be in
by next week and so far the returns
are excellent.
The federal, county and town
groups are also in the works and
they[loo, will finish next week.
Our out-of-town friends . are still
sending in donations, some of thein
being beyond expectations.
The canvass of the Various larg-
er groups should be finished -in the
near, future and the house-to-house
final blitz is still set for early June.
If you would like to help on `phis
canvass, please call fund head-
quarters.
This ..advertisement is the fifth

New Problem,
Lake Levels
Said Higher
TORONTO.—The problem in
the Great Lakes this summer
may be high levels rather than
low ones for tti change.
Energy and Resources Manage-
ment ” Minister Simonett said
Monday that levels began rising
sharply last August and are
still mounting.
He said r_sing water levels
are general throughout the•
Great Lakes and Georgian Baay,
but are especially evident at the
eastern end c,f Lake Ontario
where the level is up two feet
from last August and is expect;
ed to climb another 18 inches
during the next six weeks.
The minister told the legis-
lature _ during ,discussion of his
1966-67 spending • estimates:
"Water `-level., -zrr- . t'he Great
Lakes have recovered and we
will perhaps he worrying about
high water before this season
is out."
Outside the House, Mr. Sim-
onett said_ no flooding is antici-
pated but there is danger of
renewed shoreline erosion. from
high water.
The lake wafer levels reached
their . owest ebb in the summer
of 1964 when many tourist re-
sorts and boating centra 'a oth
pleasure and commercial ere
left h;gh and dry.as the water
receded to as much as three feet
below normal. =:
The row levels were estimated
to have caused losses in millions
of dollars to Ontario's economy
that year..
Mr. Simonett said the :.lake
levels now appear to be enter-
ing_another h..gh._cycle. :in their
continuous fluctuation.
