best location for King's High-

"The road projections which
form the heart of the recom-
mendations flowing from each
Highway Area Planning Study
are actually approached from
(the standpoint or premise
that no roads existin the area.
"However, roads represent-
ing an investment of many
-millions do exist and, aeeord-
ingly, realistic adjustments
must be made so as to fit
these projections 01 the 'de-
sire routes' as well as possible
into -the existing network.
"Sonie of the governing con-
siderations are fairly obvious,
such as, economic factors,
lands Use, the present state of
development and that. which
may ,reasonably be expected
in the future."
Mx. MacNaughton denied
that his planners had :any
knowledge of the now Ford
Plant being , "in the ind"
when it planned the new free-
way link from London to €t.
Thomas.
"The fact of the Matter Is
that they did not, in the early
stages.
"However, these plans did
become -known ata later stage
and the implications were
taken into , consideration in
planning from that point for-
ward," he said.
The minister forecast the
next 10 years' would see great-
ly extended mileages of con-
trolled access freeways, ,ex-
pressways, Class A highways,
more development roads and
an updating of the existing
network:
Mr. MaeNaughton said he
had taken into consideration
the importance of a balanced
transportation system.
"We must not fall into the
trap of putting all our eggs in
one basket as has been done
in Los Angeles where trans-
portation is almost entirely
oriented towards express -
mays," he said.
