ALEXANDRA MARINE AND ' GENERAL HOSPITAL
Your new hospital, when. it is com-
pleted this fall, .will be .as modern and
as well furnished as any hospital in On-
tario.
Our hospital has been in its pre- ,
sent Location since 1925. The original
building "The Cameron House",' now
torn down, was built over 100 years
ago. It had just outlived its usefulness.
Due to its • construction of wooden
beams' and supports,, it could not pass
the current fire laws. ' The old Chronic".
Ward, also torn down, was constructed...
in 1946. It was an old wooden .building
transferred, after World War lb, from
'the. Port 'Albert Air Base Hospital and
bricked over. ' It was supposed to be
a temporary addition to the "Cameron
House" until funds could be raised for
a modern hospital. `` The Hospital board
estimated its could be useful for ten
years, .but twenty have gone by.
The modern new part of tie hospi-
tal (eastern section) was built in 1957-58
and is our basic structure. It is as up -
•to -date as can be, acrd meets all require-
ments from a construction and service
standpoint as well as all medical stand-
ards. ..
Your hospital board estimates that
no further additions will be needed in
the .forseeable, future. THIS REQUEST
FOR YOUR FINANCIAL . HELP IS
PROBABLY THE ONLY SUCH RE-
QUEST YOU MAY BE EVER ASKED
•10 MAKE.`
The cost of. construction of The
addition to the hospital, INCLUDING
FURNISHINGS, is $812,877.00. Govern-
ment grants 'total. $370,466.00 or Tess
than half the cost. Your hospital saved
$-143,197.00 over the years,. The Ontario
Hospital Services Commission will lend
our hospital' $190,000.00 and this must
be paid in twenty years: This 'leaves
$109,214.00 (14%) to be raised by pub-
lic subscription.,
WE MUST .RAISE OUR SHARE.
Medical regearch is finding many
new ways to make us healthier and long-
er lived. Your building fund committee
is trying to 'go over the top and have
funds • immediately available .to reduce
our loan to the Ontario Hospital Ser-
vices Commissionand thereby be in a
position to buy ani new equipment that
might become desirable, in the next
twenty years.
The Building Fund committee has
been active in contacting local indus-
tries. for their support and they have
b'een most generous. The committee
has also been setting up .meetings , with
local business men, clubs and special
groups. These, too, indicate:they will
be extremely cooperative. Many old
friends and former residents have been
contacted and have been sending in
their donations. Our neighbors in • fhe
rural community will be 'out next week
to canvass their families before, they
are 'busy on their farms.
Affer these groups have been so-
Iicited, you, too, will be asked for your
.' suppoPt. It is hoped to make this house-
to-house canvass in late May. Please
be generous.
This advertisement is the first of
a series that is designed to keep you
fully informed. The adve'rtisements will
try to answer your questions. If you
need aray information, please call the
r,. fund- raising headquarters in the Fed-
eral Building -- phone 524-7641.

You ,say it is month: LAM:
'
but when you stop a minute to
think about it it is dot many
months awaynd what hatfe_
you done, or even thought of
for 1967?
We , must, make a' start now,,
bemuse once you start you will,
change your ideas a dozen times
-=and conte up with Something
really worthwhile. '
Take for instance floats in .the
parade Ort July lst. Theseimtust
be planned and, "this and. that"
rounded up for it—and for„'8►t
you will need to do more "round-
ing up” than for any other year.
So many wonderful . things
have happened . In the last 100
years that no matterb,what you.
choose it cah be outstanding.
' One float is bound to be o l
our Confederate Fathers—but
what were the Confederation
Mother's doing those days? .
I'll 'bet they were organizing'
sewing bees sa the boys could
"see Nellie home from Aunt
Dinah's Quilting Party" or plan-•
ning' the feeding of dozens of:
hardworking men at a barn rais-
ing or a threshing -bee. So to
show these gals with their old
time equipment and clothes_ -it
will take a bit of "rounding up."
This can be , fun for young
