The president, Mr, ,Donald
Haines, was in charge with Mrs.
William J. Craig at the piano.
Carol saging was led by Mrs.
Haines. -
The gaaiest. speaker, Rev. Mr.
G.Pakenham----, rector:. of St_
Mark's Anglican Ohurch, was in-
troduced by Mrs. Thomas., Hag-
gitt. He chose for his message,
"The Message of Christmas, the
home, the nation and the world."
Mrs. Andrew Kirkconnell
thanked the speaker and on 1pe,
half of the members presented
him with a gift. A solo was
sung by. Mrs. GordonChamney.
"Mrs. William de Jong gave, an
account of how they celebrate
Christmas in her homeland of
Holland. She told about their
„observance of December 5th with
Sant Nicholas and Black Peter
and also 'hat Christmas Day
was spent attending church ser-
- vires. • -
Mrs. Thomas Lawlor read, the
minutes which were accepted.
A letter of thanks was read from
th& Children's Aid Society for
gifts and money received.
Mrs. W. Bradnock reported
that the 4-H meetings were com-
pleted, Mrs. Amdrew Kirkcon-
nell gave the card report and
read the thank -you notes.
The members decided to have
the committee send Christmas
greetings to all ,shut-ins. Mrs.
\V. Bradnock gave a short re-
port of business carried on re-
cently at meeting at
Guelph. An exchange of Christ-
mas decorations was in charge of

The annual Carol Service of
the Auburn community was held
in Knox Presbyterian Church on
Sunday evening. The president
of the Canadian Bible Society,
Donald Haines, pr,esided for the
service. Miss Margaret Sander-
son was the .organist. •

"Now, Dasher! now, Dancer! now
Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! on, Cupid! on, Don -
der .and Blitzen!"
Here, just as Santa Said them,
are the names of the "eight tiny
reindeer" who drew his "minia-
ture--„sleighy? according to ele,m,
ent C. Moore in' his poem, "A
Visit from St. Nicholas."
But, since Moore wrote his
poem in 1823, Santa must have
added some new reindeer. It's
certain that he has at least,one
famous sleigh -puller not men-
tioned in the poem—the red
nosed Rudolph.
Rudolph made his first public
appearance in 1939, in the song,
"Rudolph the'Red-Nosed Rein-
deer." with words and music by
Johnny Marks.
The story of Rudolph, whose
red nose made him first a joke
and then a hero, seems to .have
the indefinable ' appeal that
makes a Yuletide tradition. As
the other reindeer .in the song
,predicted, when Rudolph's red
nose led the team through a
dark overcast Christnias Eve, it
seems likely he'll go down- in
Yuletide history, a , permanent

Knox Presbyterian Church, Mr.
Haines welcomed all to the ser-
vice and spoke of the world of
the Bible Society in the district.
The treasurer, Mrs. Thomas
Haggitt, reported that nearly
$300.00 had been sent to the
head office from Auburn. The
offering was received by Mr.
William. Wagner and Mr. Tor-
rance Tabb. Mr. Haines thanked
all canvassers for their support
