I HT AND CLASS •, . kity Bob „Wrier • Goderich Siftos (tame up with anotherofine performance last Friday' night and beat the Owen Sound Greys by a score of 4-2.. This, win kept Goderich in third place in the league be- hind Waterloo and Stratford. This is the loftiest standing the locals have enjoyed for a couple of seasons. - The garde was marred by an incident in the third period. There appeared to be some con- . fusion about a penalty call and the Owen Sound coach and play- ers delayed the game with argu- ments' for some 15 or 20 min- utes:" This was the second sudh in- cident in as many weeks in which the officials have allowed sten t ly thrOUghout• vhgame. This has marred both contests from' a spectator's point of view as it appears • as though the players are running the ga'me, not the officials. • There,.were' a couple of fight in the,..game "and near the end of the contest, 'play was unus- ually chippy. For most o,f the irre---ttrbDys-Sttnet-pretty-we to hockey, getting the odd minor penalty. It was a better ga e to watch than the week re- - vious. The other thing that marred the game was a lack of local supporters. It would appear that the Siftos 1964 are beirg • punished for the performances of teams in the last two years. Once -again, the boys showed lots of hustleand desire and, thisrt what is. refreshing. and is carrying them a long way in their victories. - The defensive corps of the Siftos did•a yeoman's job. They are not carrying off their duties with the utmost of finesse blit they don't quit. Bob Hetherington came un with another steady perform- ance on Friday night and is rapidly making fans forget the absence of Paul Cates. Bob Morancontinued to show im- provement on Friday as he handed out some stiff ,checks and worked effectively against. altacking forward5. Offensively, it' was Parsons and' Wilkinson w o were the standouts.. Wilkin.son scored .the second Goderich goal as he played a big offensive -game as well,. as, .being an aggressive. checker. Parsons, • threat with his speed, rugged- ness and his big shot. Friday was no„ exception 'as he blasted another long :shot froni just in- side the blueline And the 'Owen Sound netminder found it too on it but it went on through into the net, • lia.pseast-goal-eanTe--at-a-ti.tne ,when Owen Sound was mount - it g an •attack and this helped take the steam out of it. It lso proved to be the winning goal. Playing along. with Parsons was Dennis Williamson and Rice playing his first game. This was the steadiest and most ef- fective unit. Goderichled in tlr hocke-y game 2=0.after the first period, hot to handle. He got hi4glove soaring goals within the minute of each other around the 16 Minute mark of the. opening period. Bob Castor opened .it and Wilkinson followed. Par- sons scored midway Jhrougly the 'second perjod and Pettus rapped up the spring around the half -way pqint,- of the final period. Slap Shots:„ It is. high'time that the rule in the NHL allowing no arguing with official's' -was put into Jun- ior hockey. Junior is where, the, officials need 'the most protect tion from young argumentative players and prima donna coach- es. Last Friday night's game would have been much mare, enjoyable if 10 minutes had Aoi.sett tagged onto about four Owen Sound players..,, This would hue made a much more enjoyable game and taught sev- • eral players a . much needed lesson. * 'Alothers will, enjoy the little, incident that took place in °etc)- ! ' parents were down from Sault Ste. "Marie, Michigan, to see their son in action. Bob was goaded into a fight and didn't back. off," so he -spent . utes.-in the penalty- bok..B0 mother's remark: "This Ls the 'last game Iam coming to.
