head miller of W. B. McAllister &

V. Taylor, who was committed for
trial on a charge of fraud in the sale of
a patent right, as noted in these col:
umns last week, came before Judge
Toms last week for trial. After hear-
ing the case, owing to the difficulty of
proving the patent, his Honor released
the prisoner on suspended sentence.
Chamber, the men charged with
shooting Constable Bulmer of Listowel,
at Clinton, last spring, was not tried at
the recent assizes at Goderich, the
case being laid over till the spring as-
sizes. He was fully identified. It is
said that he was at one time aresident
of Tuokersmith, near Kippen, where
bis father formerly owned a farm.
Mr. John Hannah, Seaforth, shipped
last week, two car loads of creamery
butter from his own creameries. Chis
} butter was July and part of August
make, and was sold at 193 cents for
July make and 20 cents for August. It

There died at Philadelphia a week
or so ago a wealthy stone merchant,
W na. Gray, who was at one time well
known in Bruce and Huron.. In 1871.
he came to Canada and settled.. near.
Inverhuron, in Bruce tp. There he
was known as Boss Gray, and -carried
on extensive operations. He bought a
farm of 200 acres and built a great
stone castle.
Mitchell Mesaett, aged 72, Seatorth,
eloped last week with Katie Kennedy,
