eLINTON.--The average citi-
zen must feel that the training
-Trograms at RCAF Statin,
' Clinton, are complex and time
consuming, with hundreds of
airmen learning how to ,be radar
technicians, teachers or food
handlers. This is, of 'course,
'true, and. yet -there is also, an
extensive recreation program
at the/Station to cater to the
-whims and hobbies of sugh a,
- diverse group of people.
Just a glance at some ' of the
• activities planned for the winter
'season shows how far ranging
are -the interests of serving air-
men.
For example, a Small 'Bore
Rifle Club will hold its first
Meeting on Tuesday afternoon,
November 18, under the direc-
tion of Sergeant Rees and Cor-
poral Vegar.
The RCAF Clinton Photo Club
-held its first meeting on Octo-

could have a chance to exchange
idea t and improve their tech-
niques.

BUSY BEAVERS'
BUILD A DAM
A beaver dam, something we
understand, that has been un-
heard of in many years in this
district, has made its appear-
ance on Concession 12 West
Wawanosh Township, on the
•Emmerson farm owned by Bill
Rintoul.
The dam was discovered re.
cently by Bill and -Cairns Aitchi-
son, and while beavers are ,pro-
tected by law, Bill is posting
some no trespassing signs, in
order to enable the colony to
build their home unmolested.
Site of the dam is at the head
of the St. Helens creek, which
eventually empties into he
Nine Mile River. There is a
grove of poplar trees nearby,
which is the "toothsome" wood
that beavers enjoy,
They have built two dams, in
fact, about 15 rods apart. The
latest project is just below the
first spring on upper reaches
of the creek. They have built,
this to create a pond of water
and back it up to banks, which
provide good dens at the edge
of the pond,
They have chewed through
trees up to 10 inches in ,diam-
eter, which serve two purposes
—supplying material fee, the
dam and food for the winter.
they ifiteanr---trim up poplar
limbs about three and a -half to
four feet in length and drag
these to the pond for burial in
the mud. The juicy bark will
provide winter food and - the
"cord wood" is stored so as
to be accessible under the ice
from their "apartments" on the
pond banks.
The ingenuity of these., busy
little fellows is amazing, says
Bill, who has kept a close watch
on their construction project
since diseeveredi-,
