JOHN L. DAVIDSON
John L. "Scotty" Davidson,
71, died Saturdary morning in
Westminster Hospital, London,
where he had been a patient
"hor two weeks, Mr. Davidson
ad been in poor health for.
several ' months. A son of thy:
late , David and Annie Leding-
ham Davidson, he was born in
Paisley, Scotland, - in 1891 and
came to London, Canada, in
1909. The following year he
moved to Stratford where he
was a Canadian National Rail-
ways roundhouse `employee until
his retirement in 1957. A vet-
eran of the First WorldWar,
Mr. Davidson was active in
Royal Canadian Legion activi,
ties in Stratford. Following his
retirement he moved to Gode-
rich ' where he lived until his
death except for several sum-
mers spent in l3ayfield. He
was a member of • Knox Presby,
terian Church„ Goderich, -, and
Many Changes In New
Bell Telephone Books
Telephone numbers by the
bookful are on their way to
homes and offices in and around
Goderich.
W. W, Haysom, Bell - Tele-
phone manager for this region,
said this week that •about 37,511
copies of the new Stratford-
Goderich telephone directory
will be distributed throughout
the area served by the book,
Bell customers in Goderich
will receive 3,300 copies of the
directory this year, compared
to 2,950 in 1961.
This year Shakespeare • will
appear in the directory as a
:Bell: Telephone- Company- ex,
change for -the --first time,
Mr. Haysom suggested that
telephone customers refer" to
the introductory pages of their
directory. There is space left
for customers to make note of
their emergency numbers. These
numbers listed in the allotted
space, will serve as a quick
reference when needed.
The introductory pages con-
tain information which ranges
from the mechanics. -of placing
a call to information on long
distance 'calls.
This year's turquoise and yel-
low directory features an art-
ist's sketch 9f The Quarries, at
St. Marys, replacing last year's
sketch of The Harbor . at
Goderich.
"There have been many
changes in this year's directory"
said. Mr. 'Iaysom,.. who. advises -
customers to make amendments
to their little blue book of tele-
phone numbers.
`"If you would like a fresh
blue book you may obtain one
by calling your Bell, Telephone
office," he said..

ment was in Maitland cemetery.
BARN MISHAP CLAIMS
LIFE AT LION1.5 HEAD
George Colter, 65, .of Lion's
Head, father of MrS. James
Sheardown, Goderich, lost - his
life Sunday afternoon in a barn
mishap on his farm in the Bruce
Peninsula.
Mr. Colter left for the barn
at 3.30 pail. with the intention
f throwing down hay, from the
mow, for his cattle. A beam in
the haymow floor broke, drop-
ping, the victim 10 feet to the
floor below. Death was at-
tributed to head injuries. '1'he
accident was discoyered by Mrs.
Colter, two hours later, when
she went to the barn in search
of her husband.
'1'he late 1Vlr. Colter is sur-
vived by his wife, Bessie,- one
son, William of Crediton; three
slaughters, Mrs: James (Eliza•
beth) Sheardown, Goderich; Mrs.
William (Bernice) Levy, Sarnia;
Mrs. truce (Georgina) Sencia,
London.
The funeral service was held
Wednesday afternoon from the
Shouldice funeral home, Lion's
Iliad, followed by'. burial in
Lion's Head cemetery.
