Councillor Robertson stated he had heard remarks around town regarding the bringing in of out-of-town hockey players and getting jobs for them here. It doesn't seem right to get jobs for these strangers just because they play hockey, said Councillor Roberfson. He added that .. the suhjeet would be brought up at the nomination meeting. Councillor Reg. Jewell point- ed out that the Arena Commis- sion had nothing to do with this and it was entirely in the hands of the Booster Club. Mayor E. C. Fisher explained the plans of the Booster Club in this respect, pointing out tlfe club was interested in providing Goderich with a good strong hockey team. As an example of the Booster Club's interest, Mayor Fisher pointed out that at the end of one season the club found itself with a $1,400 deficit when the members of the club raised the money from their own pockets. Mayor Fisher stated that the Junior Hockey Club, sponsored by the Booster Club, pays all the bills in connection with its opera- tions and gets 80 per cent of the gate receipts at the Arena while the Town gets 20 per cent of the receipts.
