Baptist Church Dinner

I was held in the Baptist Church
last week -end with all the mein-
hers present. Following the
dinner, the minister, Mr. Craig
Peters, conducted the devotional
period and presided for the
annual business meeting. Mr.
Frank Raithby, the church
treasurer, reported a successful
$1.99 year With a credit 'balance. It
was decided at this meeting to
hold the Sunday school at 1
p.m. and the church service at

The Auburn Aces 4l3 Club
learned more about the value
of fwit in the daily diet at its
meeting at -the home of Marg-
aret Haines. The president,
Jannett Dobie, was in charge
and the minutes • were read by

led in the discussion of the
grades of fruit to buy; how to
buy, and how to can fruit to
have in the winter season. The
girls also learned how to store
the fr it at home, and how dried
fruit - can be kept ready at all
s. The demonstration was
an oven steamed° fruit pudding
made' by Margaret Haines with
the fruit sauce made by Marian
Hickey, assisted by other mem-
bers of Ur club.
St. Mark's A.Y.P.A,
The A.Y.P.A. of St. Mark's
Anglican Church met at the rec-
tory at Blyth for their meet-
ing with the president; Miss
Shirley Brown4n charge. After
the opening h'* n, prayers were
taken by the rector, Rev. R. F.
Meally. The Scripture lesson
was read by Rose Marie Hag-
gitt. Rev. Mr. Meally spoke to
the members on the subject,
"The part the Church Can play
in . World Affairs today." A
discussion period followed. Dur-
ing the business portion plans
were made to hold a Christmas
Deanery party in December at
Auburn. The committees chos-
en for this are: lunch, Eileen
Schneider, Rose Marie }Taggitt
and Miss Mary Nesbit; decg_rat-
ing, Carolyn Clark, Mrs. Nor-
man Mc?linchey, Carole Brown,
Ruth Schneider, Diane,Kirkcon-
nell, Judith Arthur; music, Rob-
ert Daer, Philip Clark and
George Clark. Games were con-

day.

Auburn Horticultural ,Society
AUBURN, • Oct. 16.—"Floral
Arrangements" was the topic at
the October meeting of the
Auburn Horticultural meeting
held in the' Orange Hall. The
president, Mrs. Kenneth Scott,
was in charge of the meeting
and Mrs. Robert J. Philips pre-
side& at the piano. The secre-
tary, Mrs: Gordon R. - Taylor,
read a letter 'from the District
President, Chas. R. Brisk,,ow, of
Lucknow. h was decided that
the -executive attend -the special
district meeting arid represent
the local society. . The treasur-
er, Mrs. Bert Craig, reported
that the society had on hand
$140.64.
Mrs. Scott welcomed the guest
speaker of the evening Wilfred
Denornme, of Goderich. This
well-known florist made a very
attractive fall arrangement of
ipums, using yellow mums and
smaller bronze mums and used
green huckleberry foliage for
the background. A beautiful
yellow bouquet of mums, ac-
cented with colorful oak leaves,
made an attractive arrangement
for a coffee table, In closing
his instructive"address, he made
a lovely carnation corsage. Mrs.
W. Bradnock thanked Mr. Den-
ornme for his demonstrations.
After a question and answer
period, Mr. Denomme presented
the arrangements to the society
and tickets were drawn.. The
large arrangement was won }iy
Mrs. Bert Craig, the smallerane
by Mrs. Lloyd Humphries and
the corsage went to Mrs. Robert
J. Phillips. Mrs. William T.
Robison was the winner of the
door prize. A solo was sung
by Mrs. Gordon R. Taylor,
"When Song is ,Sweet." 'The
meeting was closed with the
Queen and .lunch was served
by Mrs: William. T. Robison and
Mrs. Thomas Lawlor; assisted'
by Mrs. Kenneth 'S'cott and Mrs.
Robert i'. Phillips; "All the
waitresses wore colorful hats
and aprons in keeping with the.
Hallowe'en season and the hall
was decorated in the Hallowe'en
manner also.

DONNYBROOK, -Oct. 16. --
The October meeting of the
W.M.S. and Ladies' Aid was held
Tuesday afternoon at the home
of Mrs. gdward Robinson with
a fair attendance. The theme
was given by Mrs. Sam Thomp-

sung and Mrs. John Hildebrand
read the Scripture. Mrs. Thomp-
son gave the meditation follow-
ed by all repeating,,. the Lord's
prayer. "We thank Thee 0
our Father" was sung and Mrs.
James Leddy read a Thanks-
giving poem. It was- decidedrin
the business period to have a
"Special Tea" at the next meet-
ing to raise Rinds for the WMS;
also any clothing for relief to
be left with Mrs. Morley John-
ston. As many as possible were
to attend the Sectional Rally
at Auburn, October 24. Mrs.
Stuart Chamney gave the min-
utes of the previous meeting.
Mrs. Hilliard Jefferson read the
chapter in the study book. After
singing 'Sing tb-' the Lord of
Harvest," Mrs. Thompson closed
the meeting with prayer.
The Ladies' Aid was in charge
of Mrs. Edward' Robinson and
opened withsinging "We Plough
the Fields and Scatter." Mrs.
Robinson led in prayer, "irs.
Stuart Chamney gave a read-
ing. .Business was attended to
and - after singing "Wha+. a
Friend We Have in Jesus," Mrs.
Robinson closed the meeting
with prayer. Lunch was serv-
ed by the hostess assisted by
Mrs. James Leddy and Mrs. Wes.
Jefferson.
H. T. Woods
The death occurred early Wed-
nesday morning at St, Joseph's
Hospital, London, of Harold T.
Woods Mbf`.: re,st^- ftviran
Township, near Donnybrook. He
had been very ill for some
months. Surviving are: his
wife, the former Jean Dahmer,
of Kincardine; a daughter, Betty
Jean, who is training in Victoria
Hospital, London; three sons,
Robert, Lorne and Murray, all
at home; also a brother, George
Tisdale,' of London. Funeral
service was held Friday after -so
noon at MacKenzie Memorial
Chapel, Lucknow. 'Rev. C. W.
Lewis, of Donnybrook United
Church, officiated for the ser-
vice. Interment was in Green-
hill cemetery, Lucknow. Mr.
Wgods will be greatly missed
in this neighborhood where he
was always willing to give a
helping hand to any of his
neighbors who were in need of
help. The sympathy of this
community goes out to Mrs.
Woods and family in their loss
of a husband ail father.
We are sorry to hear that
Mrs. John Noble is still in.
