Plaque, Unmiled
By Daughter
A brass plaque honoring Rev;
David, James Lane, of Clinton,
was unveiled at a special service
Sunday night at St. Andrew's
Presbyterian Church, Clinton —
where Dr. Lane had been mil
ister for 19 years.
Dr. Lane, who received an
honorary Doctor of Divinity de-
gree at ceremonies marking the
49th spring convocation of the
Presbyterian College, Montreal,
last Tuesday, has been a min-
ister for a half century.
R. Gordon Shortreed, clerk of
the session, on behalf of an over-
flow congregation, formally pre-
sented the plaque.
It was unveiled by Dr, Lane's
only daughter, Mrs. C. H. (Made-
leine) Edward, of Goderich.
" The plaque stated, in part:
"Erected in honor of Rey. David
James Lane, B.A., D.D., on com-
pletion of 50 years (1911-1961)
in the Christian ministry, in-
cluding chaplancy service •in the
Canadian armed forces, Capt.
1917.1919 and Flt. -Lieut., 1940-
44. His long ministry was de-

TEAM 1NMEN-CIA[ .::IEAGU.E
At an organizational meeting
of the Goderich Men's Intermedi-
ate Softball tearr>..ltlonda''e'en-
ing at the Legion Hall, it .was
decided to enter the Memorial
League.
In this ,league :there will be
two' divisions, east and west,
Goderich will be entered In the
western division' ' along with
Stratford Kroehlers, , Clinton
RCAF, and possibly Rostock,
RCAF Centralia and Wingham.
In th.e eastern division, will be
Woodstock, St. Thomas, .Otter-
ville, Tavistock and Hickson.
Each team will play two home
games and two away -games with
each team in their own division
also one home game and one
away -game with each team in the
-Otiffier division. The Rate will
commence in ;about three weeks
with the schedule to be draw
up in Stratford this week -end.
It was decided not to apply
for entry in -the W.O.A.A. league
this year as, Kincardine and Rip-
ley had dropped out of the.
league and there, was the pos-
sibility that. two other teams in
.the league last year would not
field a team this season.
Prospects for • top-flight soft-
ball are evident this year in
Goderich and interest is running
high.
Several names were submitted
for manager and coach and it
was evident from the represent-
ation.that the best team in years
would represent Goderich this,
Season. The first practice has
been called for Monday evening,
May 8, at the local diamond and
everyone interested is invited to
try out for the team.
Goderich last year were best -
e• To -r tl`ie W.0.-.A.A. Teague Title
by Wingham but in O.A.S.A.
competition, beat out Fergus
before losing to.Meaford in the
Intermediate "B" semi-finals.
