around the Square continues to

Fluted aluminum ,has, been
niatalled as a frame for the re-
decorated show windows which
are topped by a marquee type
illuminating overhang. In this
overhang, 13 lamps of 130 watt
capacity each will. illuminate
the new sign. A sale is planned
to inaugurate the use of the at-
tractive new entrance.
As part of the inaugural cele-
bration is the fact that Mr..Hib-
bert has completed 35 years of
merchandizing in the seine
building. The premises were 'ac
quired -from J. ,N. Colborne &
Son in 1926 and hasoperated
since that time as one of the'
town's better known dry goods
establishments. The basement
area was added in 1945 and in
the following year' the firm name
was changed to F. E. Hibbert '
& Son, marking the release of
the son,- Harold, from the R.C.N.
Harold served aboard the air-
craft carrier H.M,S. Puncher, a
Royal Navy ship manned by Can-
adian personnel. Well known
to shoppers Of Goderich and dis-
trict,

The Home and School 'Associ-
ation held' their semi-annual
rummage sale last Saturday
afternoon, with the chairman of
the finance. committee, Mrs. W.
Dockstader, as convener. ' She

bers of the executive and the

nesday morning for John Spain,
71, wno passed away suddenly

A son of the late Peter Spain
and of the former Mary Galer,
he was bornt. m Seaforth. In
1921 Phe married Vrolet Grace
Huller, and they .resided. for one_
year irr Waterloo' before moving
to Goderich.
Surviving are his widow;
three sons, Gerald, Paul, and
Peter, all of Goderich;. eight
daughters; Mrs.' J. W. (Muriel)
Rhody, Windsor; Mrs. William
(Daisy) McCann, Mrs. Don
(Helen) Wilson, Mrs. Lavern
(Aileen) Linton, Mrs. Jack (Mar-
lene) Ashton, Mrs. Dan (Marilyn)
