ON THE LIQUOR VOTE
A self-appointed gallup poll
took an unofficial vote among
merchants on or near the,
Square Friday to determine
their' views on the forthcom-
ing April 19th vote. The re-
sults were about even on the
matter of being for or against
the establishments of licensed
dining lounges and cocktail
bars in Goderich. More than
75 merchants were, asked to
vote by "secret hallot" in*
which they were not asked to
sign their names on the bal-
lots. About a dozen Goderich

Mr. Ken Sowerby, a member
of the Harbouraires, never real-
iz,ed so many speople in Western
Ontario knew it was his birth
day last Saturday. At every
vil/age at which the bus carrying
the Harbouraires to Pat Huron
stopped, there was a special de-
livery telegram waiting there
for Sowerby to wish him a
happy birthday. Later, Sowerb
found out the gag was cooked
up by his fellow Harbouraires--
but a pleasant gag. Ks a result
of their appearance at the Big
Sing at Port Huron, the Har-
bodraires have been invited to
take part in the Inter -State Big
°Sing at_Aestoit some time- in
April.
A rink skipped by Hugh
Spring has been successful° in
getting,into the play-offs for the
curling club ChampiOnship at
Seaforth. They will start their
first play-off game Monday even-
ing. Others on the rink are

NEW MINISTER COMING
TO A CLINTON CHURCH
Rev. Clifford G. Park, min-
ister of Byron United Church
for the past seven years, has
accepted a call to Wesley -Willis
United Church, Clinton.
The move takes effect in June.
Mr. Park spent eight years as
minister 9f Victoria Avenue Un-
ited Church, in Chatham prior,
to going to Byron. He spent
seven years at Whitby prior to
taking the Chatham charge.
Mr. Park will replace Rev.
Edgar Roulston, *(retired) who
has been supplying at Wesley
Willis United Church since Sep-
tember when its former min-
ister, Rev. J. A. McKim, left to
take an educational post in St.
John's, Newfoundland.
The return badminton elim-
ination tournament between
Goderich and Clinton .Radar
School was lield at GDCI Mon-
day night. Wingers were: men's
singles, Matt Matihevvs, of Clin-
ton; men's doubles, Bill Rogers
and Matt Matthews, of Clinton;
women's singles, Chris Hall, of
Goderich; women's doubles, Max-
ine Martin and Wiley Cum-
mings, of Goderich; mixed
