ed to 'buy ,six yards of flannelette
'to make layettes for the Arab
children; also to make a book of
quilt blocks for. the Salada Tea
projedt. An invitation was receiv-
ed from Tiger Dunlop Institute to
attend their hobby -show and tea
on April 8.
A debate was held, resolved that
the men of 50 years ago were
better husbands than the men of
today. The affirmative was taken -
by Mrs. R. Finnigan with Mrs. K.
Dawson taking the negative.
The election of officers resulted

Second Goderich` Girl .Guide CoM-
pany, of which Mrs. N. T. Ormandy
is captain. The new guides are
Karen Dean, Sandra Jewell, loan

Special guests for the evening to
watch their daughters enrolled
were Mrs. C. E. Everett, Mrs. Wil-
liam Moore and Mrs. Dean.
During the meeting, games were
under the direction of the Canary
Patrol-. Plans- were made for 'a
hike to be held Easter week, the
Mother and Daughter banquet to
be held April 29 antookie Day
to be held May 10. Campfire sing-
ing was under the direction of
Mrs. R. Smith, Lieutenant.

Miss Fern Cranston, RN., was
in Goderich visiting friends over
the week -end, returning on Mon-
day to Windsor.
Mrs. Jennie McGratten spent the
week -end with her son, Gordon
and Mrs. McGratten, Colborne

Mrs. A. L. Cole, accompanied by
her sister, Mrs. T. G. Caley, of Port
Dover, has returned from a holi-
day at St. Petersburg, Florida.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cook and
children, of Port Colborne, were
visitors in town over the week-

• Mrs. W. Hewitt, of North Bay,
visited relatives in Goderich and
attended the Grigg -Sinclair wed-
ding at Kippen United Church.
Mr. and Mrs. F. A., Waters were
in Toronto this week attending the
funeral of the former's brother-in-
law, who died suddenly there at
the age of 53,' -
Major Murray MacDonald is
'visiting with his mother, Mrs. A.
MacDonald, Brock street, following
his return from a two years' tour
of ditty in Germany with- the "Can-
adian Army.

quaintances at The Signal -Star
Office on Wednesday. On holi-
days, he and his wife are visiting
with his parents at Hanover.

and Mrs. Jack Hussey and John
have moved totheir home in Luck -
now and the Adkin family, of
Turnerville, who purchased the'
Hussey farm, have moved to their
home here.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Johnston,
of Nile, and Bob Rising, spent the
Week -end of March 23 with'Mr. and
Mrs. Marvin Ross and family near
Galt.
Monday evening, -March 24, the
neighbors and friends spent a very
enjoyable evening at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hussey. Cards
were played during the evening.
Winners of the game were' Betty
Moerbeck and Mrs. J. Murphy for
•the ladies, Fred Crawford and •Jack
Moerbeck for the men. Mr, Elmer
Hunter read an address to Mr. and
Mrs. Hussey who were presented

OBITUARY
MRS. 'GEORGE DUNLOP •
After •a lingering illness, Mrs.
-George Dunlop died on Tuesday
at Alexandra Hospital, She was
formerly Mary Maud Biggar, daugh-
ter of the late Andrew Biggar and
Mary Mayne of Trafalgar Town-
ship, near Oakville. For a num-
ber of years she was engaged as
secretary to the late Charles Wur-
tele, when he owned and -operated
the Goderich Salt Company. Her
husband, George Dunlop, prede-
ceased her in 1952. She was a
member of St. George's Anglican
Qhurch. -
Surviving are five sisteri, Mrs.
Albert Thorne, Mrs. E. C. Ottis,
and Mrs. J. E. Regan, all of Tor-
onto, Mrs. A. Doerr, of Hespeler
and Miss Ida Biggar, of Goderich.'
One brother, William Biggar, re-
sides In Toronto.
The funeral service- -was-eon
ducted by' Rev. Dr. K. E. Taylor
on Wednesday - afternoon at the
Lodge funeral home. - Interment
was made in Prospect cemetery,
Toronto.
MRS. CHARLES H. CAIMAN
• Mrs. Beatrice Maud Cadman, a
native of Ehgland who came to
Canada many years ago, died at
her home on Britannia road on
Sunday after a lingering illness.
She was -a daughter of the late
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Fredrick
Utley, of Greenwich, England, and
was 'born 77 years ago: She set-
tled in Toronto when she came
from England in 1907 and in 1908
was married to Charles Herbert
Cadman. They continued to live
in Toronto for 15 years -and then
moved to the St. Helen's district,
West Wawanosh Tc,wnship, where
they resided until they retired to
Goderich two years ago.
Deceased is survived by her hus-
band and four sons, John Herbert,
of Grand Falls, Newfoundland;
Laurence, of" Bronson, Michigan;
Ernest Henry, of Guelph, and
Charles ''"Fredrick, of Goderich.
There are twelve grandchildren.
The funeral service on Tuesday
afternoon at Stiles funeral home
was conducted by Rev. S. A..Moote.
'Interment was made in Maitland
Cemetery. The pallbearers were
Reg. Bell, Ralpht �,Kingswell, How-
ard Carroll and Wm. Skinner.,

IMPERSONATED OFFICER
Howard Kuenzie, of Goderich,
impersonated a police officer again
last Friday. This time about 2,000
people saw • him. But still he
wasn't arrested.. In fact, he had
the blessing of the police. Howard,
a former professional skater, enter-
tained as a clown on skates at the
big Lions•OPP game- held in Mount
Forest. About $1,800 was netted
for welfare work as a ,result of
the contest. The Lions defeated
the OPP 8-3.
BIRTHDAY GUESTS
CARLOW, April 1: --Since Mod=
day, March 31, was the birthday of
Fordyce Clark, a turkey dinner
was held at his home on Sunday
to mark the occasion. In addition
to the family there were several
invited guests. Among the guests
was Miss Helen Clark, who has
been confined to house for many
months because of illness. Just
before dinner, a carload of un-
expected guests from W'ingham ar-
rived. They were: John Hanna,
MLA, and Mrs. Hanna, Miss Mc-
Pherson and Mayor McKinney. •
