Survey Here On
Need For Houses
The Winter Employment Advis-
ory , Committee met again last
Thursday, In addition to the regu-
lar members of the committee,
Mayor
Fisher was -present -and -re,
on
the
Po
ported to the
progress made on the proposed
housing project.
Mr. Bradley, ofthe Ontario De-
partment of Plaing and Develop-
ment, is expected here. next week.
He will survey the need for houses
and much will depend on his re-
commendations. Some members
of the committee felt that some-
thing should be done about secur-
ing land for future development.
The Mayor did not think this would
be workable for' three reasons:
Federal, Provincial and Municipal
authorities arc involved; It is dif-
ficult to budget money for future
development; Approval would have
to be obtained frons' Central Mort-
gage and Housing Corporation. The
committee decided to send repre
sentatives• to the meeting next
week of the Housing Committee,
Mr. Bradley and Council:
Several large building projects
are being planned for., Goderich
for the near ' future. Mr. Pirie
pointed out that care should be
taken to co-ordinate these jobs
to avoid a shortage ' of qualified
local labor.
It was reported that at least six
local men `can qualify for work
under the Provincial scheme to
provide winter employment.

$75 'In Court

Morrissey, ` of Crediton, pleaded
guilty to impaired driving when
his case came up before Magistrate
D. . Holmes here last Thursday.

,costs, or two weeks in 'jail, and his
right to drive was suspended for
six months.
Morrissey was charged after
police observed a car travelling
around the 'Square in an erratic
manner at 1,3G a.m. on February
22. He admitted he had had "four
or five bottles" to drink.
Ronald Hardy, of R.R. 2, Brus-
sels, was fined $50 and costs on
each of two counts. The altern-
ative in each case was a 30 -day -
jail sentence. --'His driving priv-
ileges were suspended for one year
and --his -ear -impounded,
Hardy had been charged with
driving While prohibited and with
having illegal possession of a lic-
ense. His vehicle was in collision
with the rear of another Rar in
Colborne Township during the
storm on February 17.

fective brakes, Harry Kerr of R.R.
5, Goderich, was fined $15 and
costs or seven days. On a charge
of failing to have license plates
illuminated; he was fined five dol-
lars and costs. Constable Martin
Horan, of Goderich, said that he
checked the Kerr vehicle on the
night of January 31.

costs on a charge of driving a car
with defective brakes. The court
was told that the Fuller `car was
in collision with a car belonging
to a town constable. The accident
happened at McDonald street and
Britannia road on February 8.
Through his counsel, Mr. Fuller
entered a plea of guilty. It was
explained that the master cylinder
had cracked, allowing the brake
fluid to run out. This could have
the effect of rendering the brakes
suddenly useless, the court was
informed.
Frank E. Bingham, `79, of Gode-
rich, was fined $10 and costs for
careless driving. His counsel en-
tered a plea of guilty on his be-
half. The court was told that the
charge resulted from a minor ac-
cident on the Square do February

into the path of a vehicle driven
by Francis Prouse. The point of
