progressive and they live together

part of the village has been built
within thC 1:151 three' years. It
now contains live stores, three

fLooking up old issues of The
Huron Signal for early accounts
of the Dungannon Fair, we found
the first account in the 'issue of
October 15, 1863. Files of the
Huron Signal -.-for years previous
to this were not available. Bat the
aforementioned issue told of "The
Ashfiejd and Wawanosh Agricul-
tural Society's Fair at Dungannw
on October 8, 1863." Secretary at
that time was Jolp Pentland.

William Mallough, William Young,
Thomas Anderson, 'Hezekiah Helps,
David McIlwaini Thomas Pentland,
William Durum, John - Savage,
James McKnight, NV -alter Treleaven,
Dean, Swift and William Harris.
The account of the same fair the
following year, 1.104, had a list of
prize winnecrs which was almost
identical with the preceding year.
An account of this fair said, in
part: "The show at Dungdannon
yesterday, all things °mattered,
was a success. From the magni-
ficent • country around, a large
quantity of stock, grain, etc., was
brought in and attendance en the
part of the farmers was qtaite
re.spectable.Several very fine
samples of spring and fall Wheat
were llovvn.'
The fair in 1864 was held on
October 12. The judges at that
fair were Salkeld, Honstin and
The Dungannon Fair In Bygone Years,

First 'fall fair 1 ever remember
attending was at Dungannon.
I lived at Dungannon between
the ages of three and 11 years,
after which my parents moved to
Port Albert, but 1 do not remember
anything about fairs in that time.
.It 'was in the old Drill Shed at
Dungannon in either 1874 or 1876
that 1 saw my first fall fair. By
that time I was living at Sheppard -
ton. There was a kind of race
course at the village end of Billy
Mallough's farm south of the Drill
Shed. 1 remember a load eoniing
over to the fair from Sheppardton
Loci 1) brother, David. and 1 ‘vere
in it.
1 remember a sa1king match at
the fair whieh was won by Fr n k
Hathaway, a blacksmith from Shep-
pardton1'4t‘ry t eine Frank ‘‘ could
make a round on the course. Harry
Campbell would rush out and give
him a 1O111011 to suck, Frank was
a teetotaler and won the race on
lem,tis for Sherxrdton.
At night there was 'a concert in
the Dr.IL Shed. "Uncle Tom's
Cabin" was the concert given. I
