a lot to do with this," said Police
Chief Charles Smith, of Part Bur-
well,
urwell, when two 16 -year -014 bJys
were brought into magistrate's
court at Goderich, to faee a series
of break-in and car theft charges.
Larry Cole and Robert George
Foote, both of Port Burwell, each
pleaded guilty to six charges and
allot guilty to a seventh Charge,
Foote is a former resident of Bay-
field.
Magistrate D. E. Holmes remand-
ed thein one week for sentencing.
Handcuffed to each other, they
were escorted out of the court
house and aback to Huron County
Jail.
The boys pleaded guilty •to com-
tiittingthree thefts at .Bayfield and
stealing cars at Port Burwell, Thed-
ford and from a community in
Carleton County.
They were charged after being
picked lip on suspicion .by Con-
stables Martin Horan and L. Theri-
ault, of the Goderich Police De-
partment. The local police picked
the boys up outside the Royal hotel
after receiving a call from the
proprietor, B. R. Robinson, who
suspected someone was attempting
to steal a vehicle parked in front
of the hotel.
The- constables found the two
youths in a car which latter proved
to have been stolen from Thedford.
The car also contained a supply of
chocolate bars, a gas can and a
funnel.
Bayfield Break-ins
According to Crown Attorney H.
Glenn Hays, the boys broke into
Grant Turner's Bayfield service
station and took about $38 in cash
and $11 worth of chocolate bars.
On the same day, they broke into
Fred Telford's, fish shanty and
escaped with some liquor.
The next day, using a hose taken
from the Parker residence, they
siphoned gas from a truck owned
by Donald McLeod. They had
taken, the gas can and funnel at
Grand Bend.

Trip From Goderich to Early 80's
A "Yesteryears" picture display-
ed in The Signal -Star window
brought back memories 40. s.
Edgar Watson, now in Gode ch,
as these pictures have done for
others. Appearing in the picture
of "The Goderich Bicycle Club of
1884" is her father, the late George
B. Cox, who c+_ice operated The
British Exchange Hotel here.
As a result, Mrs. Watson dug
down into her collections of former
years and came up with a letter
which her father had written to
her mother back in 1883. The
letter told of a bicycle trip which
Mr. Cox was making.
But let the old letter tell the
story, as follows: "I left Goderich
Iin company with Harry ' McLean
and Harry Vidal Thursday after-
nocn and got as far as the Nile,
when it started to rain so we stop-
ped there for the night. We left
yesterday morning early and came
to Lucknow. Good roads so . far.
Thence to Wingham. Roads mixed.
Vidal got tuckered out and came
on in a ,buggy with his machine.
He f.11d McLean left me then and
started for home via Blyth.
"I started after dinner far Brus-
sels. When I got to Bluevale the
bridge over the river was gone
and I had to carry the machine
