Garry Byrd, of the Bank of Com- merce staff spent the week -end at his home in Chatham. The Auburn saw mill is now closed. Some of the employees are away on vacation, while others are helping the farmers with thresh- ing. Two loads of lumber were loaded and shipped this week. Misses Margaret Haines, Barbara MacKay, .nd Carol Brown are at- tending the Presbyterian Camp near Kintail. Mr. and Mrs. James Raithby visited in London with their fam- ily. Pte. Allen Craig, who has just returned from New Brunswick, is visiting with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William J. Craig. Mr. Lid Mrs. Ralph Fortune, . Mr. and Mrs. A. Billing are visiting with friends at Tillson'burg. Misses Fern and Erma Syming- ton, of Toronto, called on Mr. and Mrs. T. S. Johnston and Mr. end Mrs. E. Phillips on Saturday'. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Johnston, of Goderich, visited With Mr. and Mrs. T. S. Johnston. Friends here were sorry to-- hear that Ben --had - a 'broken foot and has had to go- c-el– crutches. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Finnigan, Mrs. Olive Culbert, and Miss Pearl Finnigan, of Goderich, were recent visitors with IVJr. and Mrs. Roy Finnigan. Mr. a♦id Mrs. David Wallace, of Mossley, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Doerr, of , treetsville, Mrs. Ben Kglowles, two former Auburn girls, Mrs. Stanley Strausser, of Sault Ste. Marie (formerly Dorothy Craig) and with Mrs. Bev. French, (form- erly Ann -Beadle). Mrs. Fall's Hunter, of Glen Rock, New Jersey, is guest with Mr. and Mrs. Sydney Lansing. The librarian requests that all library books be turned in by Saturday, August 24. after spending the past three Mr. and Mrs. William J. Craig months in Goderieh hospital'. Mrs. and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Craig John Payne is nursing Mrs. Clark at the home of Hiram Lindsay. Friends will be pleased to hear that David W. Sympathy is extended to Mrs. Carl Govier and Mrs. Lewis Ruddy, whose father; Mr. Loftus Welsh, Goderich, passed away in a London hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Duman McIntyre, of Detroit, visited with Mr. and Mrs. George Beadle. They were accompanied back to Detroit by Mrs. Cliff Brov►n, who will spend a week visiting her sisters in that city. Stewart King has returned to Toronto after visiting with Mr. and •Mrs. Russell King, and with Mr. and Mrs. Donald King, of Strathroy. Colin Young, of Toronto, spent his vacation. at his cottage at Sun- set Beach. His twin brother, Keith, who is serving overseas with the RCAF, is now stationed in France. A baby ,girl has arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Gross. A sister for Paul Gross. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Patterson, of Goderich, formerly of Auburn, are vacationing with Mr. and Mrs. William Rigdell at La Riviere Man- itoba. Mr. and Mrs. Lew Wagner and f-amily, from USA, visited with th Wagner family on the -Base Line. Friends here were sorry to learn that Mrs. Rose Bradnock is a pat- ient in a London hospital. Her friends wish her a speedy recovery. Mr. and Mrs. J. Keith Arthur, John, Ron 'and Wayne Arthur, are holidaying in Northern Ontario. While away, they will visit with ASHFiL, ASI1F1 , Aug. it. Mr. and Mrs. Stuart Cameron and children, of Buffalo, are visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Simpson. The many friends of Jim Sinnott regret his passing. He had spent a considerable amowut of his life in Ashfield where he was a friend of all. Sympathy of these, friends is extended to his widow and sisters. The death occurred recently of two former residents of Ash,field. Mrs. Gordon Fenity, of Toronto, died in hospital after a lengthy period of illness. She was the former Jessie MacRae, daughter of Mr. John MadRae rand the late Jessie MacKenzie. She is survived by her husband and two daughters, Judy and Shirley, and three bro- thers, Judge Ian MacRae, of Lon- don, Duncan MacRae, of Colling- wood, and James, of Toronto. The funeral took place in Lucknow from the MacKenzie funeral home and was very largely attended by a wide circle of old friends. Burial took place in Lochalsh cemetery. The death occurred of Mrs. Mary Eva Harton, wife of E. Douglas Harton', in Victoria Hospital, Lon - of Windsor, Nova Scotia, an -d Reg. Crudge, of Long Poirit, visited with Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Davies. Friends here were sorry to hear that Mrs. Elmer Robertson broke her left wrist when she fell at her home. Mr. and Mrs. William L. Craig and family are holidaying in USA. HELENS, Aug. 19.—Jimmy and Judy Watson, of -Exeter, are holiday visitors with their cousin, Terry Watssit. Mr. Jim Reid, of Dungannon, gave a thought-provoking address on a missionary theme at the service in- the United Church on Sunday morning. Next Sunday, Mr. Colin Fieigland, of Wingharn, will be the guest speaker. Miss W. D. Rutherford was a visitor in Toronto for a few days last week. Mrs. James Ramage, of Asquith, Sask., renewed old acquaintances in the community. Misses Lois and Ruth Webb and Marvin McDonald are home after completing Summer courses at Hamilton, Londcn and Toronto respectively. Miss Anna Stuart, of Toronto, is. spending a week's vacation with Mr. and Mrs. George Stuart. Special Services visited recently with relatives at Brownsville.
