Only Two Percen-t- Of County Roads Sk Satisfactory This year's $683,000 county road program is the largest ever, but it is still far from adequate, Huron County Council was told at June sessions in the court house here. "We cannot afford to sit hack and watch our road system deter- iorate to an intolerable condition, under ever-increasing- traffic vol- umes and`' ,truck loads," warned County Engineer J. W. Britnell. Only about two percent of the 2 miles of county roads in Huron e now in good condition, accord - g to the engineer. With a total road budget of 000,000. said Mr, Britnell, 50,000 a year could be allotted to new construction. This would be enough to rebuild 15 miles of l ad and build three ridges each ar. Paving is to be done this sum- mer, Mr, Bi jtnell reported, on a totalof seven and a half miles of county road in Huron including four miles in ,Goderich Township. A recommendation that the sal - y of the county engineer be set $9,000 a year, plus car al]ow- ce, effective July 1, was adopted c►r Council in committee of the ole discussed salaries. 41 n_ 0- - -- ---- -o Canada has eight rivers of more n 1,000 miles in length. 41 ar etteee••®A•eemese••••••AA in Lakeview Casino GRAND -.BEND ro Ye DANCING SATURDAY, JUNE 22nd Nightly starting June 29th, ar MIDNITE DANCE at ran JULY lst WEEK -END aft • wh Bentley -Gardiner Orchestra. •®•eesell ciee l•t••ogeolbe '9• t h a - ALT 'T J.
