In another league encounter, the Rouse team scored its first. win by etigilag Dodges 4-3. In Bantam Town League action, the Mills crew continued to set the pace, edging Ainslies 5-3, while IGA decisioned the winless Sheaf- fers by an identical score. Bud Robinson led the Mills At- tack with three goals, with single counters credited to Don Currell and George Hudson. Bruce Vin cent and Currell collected assists. For Ainslies, Dave Wilkinson was a. stand -out, .scoring all three goals. Frank Gardiner pickedV. up an assist. Ed. Harrison with two goals and Gary Feagan with a singleton, led IGA to victory over Sheaffers. For the winners, assists were contribut- ed by Marty Baechler (2) and Roger Drew. Ed. Laithwaite scored both goals for Sheaffers, and assists were col- lected by Ernie Pinder, Bob Scott and Pete McIv.ers. 'George Laithwaite performed the hat trick as Studebakers upset the league-leadin-g Fords in a pee wee contest. Don Yeo, with two goals, and Bill Wilkinson, with one, were the other ,marksmen for the win- ners. Ootiefieli 13:31T •••••••••••••••••••••••• SUNDAY, FEB. 10— Mathes Trip Sailors End Win Siring At 11 Goderich Midget Sailors took their first defeat of the season when they clashed with the power- ful Toronto.Marboro Midgets in a thrill -packed hockey game played before more than -800 roaring fans here Saturday night. While the "'future Maple Leafs" trounged the Sailors 8-2, thus end- ing C-oderich's 11 -game winning streak, the play Was a lot closer than the score indicated. The Sailors fought tooth and nail all the way, never backing down in the face of the heavier 'Marlboros, iwho were Midget "A" champions of Ontario last year. The Sailors are holders of the 'Midget "B" crown. Art Peachey scored both goals for Goderiela For the Marlies, who are hand-picked, players from all over Ontario, the top scorers were Spenser Fosburi and Ron Finn with two. goals each. Single counters were flipped home by Aldis, Mac - Ewan, Hay and Standing. Twelve 'penalties were handed out, and many fans expressed sur- prise at the. roughness of play, considering it was an exhibition game. Larry Jeffrege of the Sail. ors, was knocked out of play twice in the tifird period, but he re- covered quickly. On the last oc- casion, Speirino earned a penalty for high -sticking him. After the game, the Toronto team's manager and coach spoke in very complimentary terms about the fighting alisplay of the Gode- rich -boys. One Goderich player in whom they expressed particular intereat was Dave Besse, a former local boy who has been playing intermediate hockey down Wallace- , burg way this season. He is still eligible to play midget hockey and was called up for the game Saturday night. Though fighting a losing battle, the Goderich team kept pouring it on to the delight of the fans. When Art Peachey scored his sec- ond goal in the third period, the applause almost lifted the roof as fans showed their appreciation of the never -say -die spirit. Last night, Goderich Sailors were scheduled to play in St. Marys in the first game of a group play-off series with the St. Marys club. Goilerich Bantams were also slated to make the trip to meet St. Marys Bantams in another play-off series. Ted *illiams and Ken Miller are both expected to join the Maitlands' lineup. It was not known for sure itf they would be available in time far tonight's im- portant contest here against Mit- chell Red Devils. Ted Williams will prolbalbly fit in on a line with Doug Cruickshank and Jack Meriam, playing coach. Ken Miller is a defenceman. The club is also negotiating for the sea -vices of a third Goderich player who could strengthen the teams if be agrees to come out. After dropping a '14-7 decision in Zurich last week, Maitlands came back to edge the Flyers 8-7 in a return engagement here Mon- day night. The Maitlands were losing 7-6 when they yanked goalie Dan God- dard in favor of an extra forward when there was less than a minute remaining in the final. period. The maneuver paid off as Gord Walters scored the equalizer on a play set up by Doug 'Cruickshank. In the 10.minute overtime ses- sion, Cruickshank tallied ithe win- ning goal for Goderich at 3.08.
