Town Council intends to ins esti-
gate further the possibility of re-
lieving the traffic botttleneck and
hazard caused by the overhead
GNB, bridge at the top of the Hilt
Ieading to Sanford.
Last` Friday night council re-
ceived a letter from C. C. Loggie,
division engineer of the railway,
of Stratford, referring • to council's
recent request that ' the railway
do something about the bridge.
Mayor J. E. Huckins .painted out
at a council meeting earlier this
month than he considered the
bridge A traffic hazard.
He suggested that the bridge
could be widened, with the pedes-
trian walk *bed on the outside of
the bridge.- _
"The railway has no plans for
tl_e widening •af the •bridge, but if
Town Council is agreeable to the
elimination of the sidewalk, the
removal of it would permit the
'widening off the roadway by four
feet," Mr, Loggie said ' in the
letter. •
• Some memibers of council agreed
that even if the sidewalk on the
bridge were eliminated; +the' r situ-
,ati•on would be no worse than at
the bridge over the, Maitland. - at
the bottom of ,the .bill, which does
not have a sidewalk.
'Council ,decided to take the • mat-
ter• up with the Ontario Depart-
ment of Highways, the Board of
Transport Commissioners and L.
