SUPPORT—TO APOINT (Ingersoll Tribune Editorial) We have been reading with in- terest .the accounts of the exploits of the team of Winnipeg Pee Wee hockeyists who came down to take part in the Young Canada tourna- ment at Goderich last week. Even to try to imagine the excitement, fun and interest of that trip for the youngsters was to share a bit off their experience. Perhaps we should admit right here, though, that our particular interest in this team was aroused by a story in the Goderich Signal - Star. This story told about, the support. the boys get—and what they have to do for themselves. We further admit that the story caught our attention, because the Winnipeg idea oi how the bo,ys' teams should be run, co-incides with our own pet theories. The boys get lots of support; in this case from their mothers who hcdd bridges, teas and so on to raise money for the team's oper- ation. However, the boys are not allowed to believe that. everything is -going to drop right into their laps. Each boy must buy his Own stick and gloves. For the trip to Goderich, each had to earn $15 at least toward expenses. This meant EARN too, because parents did no,t hand out the cash. It is our idea that those lads think more of their team, take more pride in their accomplish- ments than any team, which is sup- ported completely by- an organiz- ation, no matter how wellmeaning. As eager, interested youngsters they are learning that life just doesn't hand them all they want on .a silver platter and further, in getting some things for them- team in carrying their support jut ATTIC WITH ''esA FOR SALE AD kind to theirCLEANCLEAN YOUR th.at there is a lot of satisfaction ers being,, very I selves. • Those Winnipeg supportwo far.
