BUILDING PERMITS FOR
SEVEN HOMES ISSUED.
House -building in Goderich is
going on the upswing, according
to a report made at last Thursday's
Town Council meeting by Town
Clerk S. H. Blake.
He told council that during
March and early April, 10 building
permits had been' issued, seven of
them for dwellings. Total value
of the places to be constructed was
estimated 'at $30,900.
The original provinces of the
Confederation of Canada were New
Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario
and Quebec.
Mks. Main, is a

She can't get out today, but she is taking advantage of the "sale" — by telephone.
Add up the dollars your telephone saves in bargaiit you pick up. Think of the hours
and effort it saves, too ... how you can even "go places" without -leaving the house.
Your telephone serves you so many ways; no price can measure its usefulness.
THE BELL TELEPHONE COMPANY OF CANADA
A Cheque for $142,327, marking the first dividend on preferred stock
paid to the Government by the C.N.R. under the new capital `structure
authorized last year, is turned over to Hon. Lionel Chevrier, Minister
of Transport, right, by Donald Gordon, Chairman and President of the
Canadian National Railways. The dividend cheque also represented
the first peacetime surplus for the C.N.R. since the boom year of 1928.
NEWS OF DUNGANNON
DUNGANNON, April 7. — Mr.
and Mrs. Murray Okes, Toronto,
spent the holiday week -end with
the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Jack Chisholm.
Sandra Bradley of Goderich is
spending Easter holidays with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herb Stoth-
ers.
Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Collins and
two little sons of Preston spent
the week -end with Mr. and Mrs.
Allan Reed and relatives at Luck'•
now.
Mr. Ennis Comfort, St. Cath-
arines was a week -end visitor with
his uncles, Messrs. Harold and
Cecil Blake.
We are sorry Mr. Robt. Moor
who suffered a stroke last week,
is not showing much change in
improvement.
Mrs. Abner Morris had members
of her family home for Easter
Sunday as follows: Mr. and Mrs.
Russel Drennan, Reta and Charles
of Bright's Grove; Mr. and Mrs.
Anderson Mugford, London; Mr
and Mrs. Douglas Freeman of Clin
ton; Mr. and Mrs. Len Christilaw
Nile. Miss Reta Drennan, Bright's
Grove, is remaining for the "boli
days with her grandmother, Mrs
Morris.
Mr. John G. Berry; secretary -
treasurer of the' Huron County
Overseas Flood Relief Fund, re-
ports that contributions totalled
$9,279.71 up to Tuesday of this
week. He points out that donors
of five dollars or over will be for-
warded an official receipt for in-
come tax purposes. Others may
have one upon request.
Since some of the collection
branches have not yet forwarded
a complete list of donors the afore-
mentioned sum is not as large as
it eventually will be. Then, there
are other organizations who have
sent their donations direct to their
own headquarters. For example,
the Goderich and Seaforth Lions
clubs each donated $500 but this
money was sent to a .central fupd
in Toronto. A combined total of.
donations from Huron County
would, therefore, run well in ex-
cess of . 910,000.
The County. of Huron has taken
care of -all the 4dniinlstration
charges in connection with the
drive and all money received will
be Torwarded to the 'proper auth-
orities. Mr. Berry asks that any
lists of donors as yet not forwarded
should be sent in at once. Any-
one not receiving an official re-
ceipt very shortly and who desires
one, should advise Mr. Berry with-
out delay.
Canada has nearly 600,000 miles
of roads. Only 14 per cent are
e u paved.
