Perhaps it is because most of our ancestors came from warmer countries than Canada that we are i inclined to rush things too fast. Of course it is pleasant and natural to get outside with a spade just as soon as the sun starts to get warm. But so long as the soil is the least bit muddy and there remains a real threat of serious frost, it is well to take things easy. As a matter of fact for the great majority of plants there is no real growth until spring has definitely arrived and both air and poll are warm. Of course there are' sone ex- ceptions. One can hardly get grass seed, sweet peas, the first radishes and spidadh, the first garden peas and all kinds of•shrub- bery, vines and trees, planted too early. These go in just as soon as the soil is fit to work. With the rest, however, one is well ad- vised to be patient.
