STRAWBERRIES GROWING
AS NOVEMBER ARRIVES
The snow storms of a Couple of
weeks ago ,do . not 134X1111 to have
indicated any sudden change for
the worse iu the weather here-
abouts and the current mild spoil.
seems to portend further warm
weather.
To support this theory the Signal -
Star has been provided with con-
crete evidence by Mrs. Gladys
Black, S. Cleorget3 Crescent, who
broughttwio strawberries front her
garden into, the office of this news-
paper last Friday, the last day of
October.
Just a couple of weeks ago, Mrs.
Black picked enough strawberries
from her garden to provide a treat
for a patient at the Alexandra Hos-
pital. While the two beiries which
were presented here are not com-
pletely red in eolor, they are of a
good size and almost fullyripe.

the deer got into his barn,. he did
not kill it, and had no idea how the
deer was killed or captured.
He said that on the previous Sun-

up cattle belonging to H. 0. Jerry

BRINGS MINOR DAMAGE
•
While 'modern advances in th6
field. of plumbing have, to some ex-
tent, put a eritup in the anututi
celebration of Hallowe'en in Gode-
.
rich, youthful mischief-nrakers,
,seen i trot . to have been too frus-
trated by this interferenee with
the traditional oixscrvance of the

A suitable substitute was found
„
iu the summer house at the toil of
the bank on Cohourg Street, which,
weal before midnight, had been up-
rooted and overturned, although the
culprits by no, means succeeded iu
Ironing it to the bottom of the bank
as was their apparent object. The
, brush on the side of the bank ap-
pears to have kept the building
from toppling drown the hill.
A more serious aspect of the
night's events was the breaking
off, at ground level, of a number
of mall boxes and at least one stop
sign, which will probably require
new posts to restore them to their
original height. .-
Most citizens report that the
usual number of children rang door
bolls demanding "triek or treat"
or simply "shell otrt" and. in most
cases the treats were supplied in
preference to the possible removal
of a gate or garbage can. All in
tell, it appears to have been a rear,
tively mild celebration.
Some thirty children were awarded prizes fo r eost umes :at the Hallowe'en party at 'the
