Eight women who joined the WI in 1928 received floral corsages and little gifts. Personal Notes from Whitechurch Ross and Bob Moffat arrived home from the West on the week- end to attend the funeral of their grandfather, Robert Stewart. A surprise shower was held Sunday at the home of Mrs,. Bill McPherson, St. Helens, when relatives gathered to honor Miss Ruth Elliott, a September bride- to-be. Mrs. Elroy Laidlaw, Mrs. Ducharme and Jane Laidlaw were also in attendance. Miss Darlene Coultes is this week visiting her friend Miss Carol McDowell of Blyth. Miss Joyce Tiffin and Miss Janet Sleightholme of Toronto spent the weekend with their parents. Darlene Stamper, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Stamper, RR 1, Bluevale graduated from the Georgian College nursing program in Owen Sound on Saturday, July 19. Graduation exercises for the class of 52 students wef'e held at the Division Street United Church. Those attending the graduation were her parents, sister Louise, brother Douglas, graldfather, Frank Stamper, Mrs. Zelma Hertog, Peter Burley and Mr. and Mrs. Les- lie Caldwell. Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Smith of Markham were weekend visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Russel Chap- man. Mr. and Mrs: Bev Kay, Gra- ham and Wendy visited on Sun- day afternoon with his mother, Mrs. Kay, and Mr. and Mrs. Ken Kay and family of Guelph. • David Elliott is visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Don Campbell of London. On the 4-H exchange, Dennis Wellman of Indiana is visiting for six days with Barry Elliott. Little Bobby Craig returned to his home in Wingham after visit- ing while his mother was in hos- pital for a week with his grand- parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dawson Craig. Mr. and Mrs. Alex, Craig and any . were „at 'Toronto International 4irport to meet Mrs. Janet Han and Miss Edna Carr on their return from B.C. . Mr. and Mrs. Dawson Craig were Sunday visitors. with Mr. • and Mrs. Bill Peacock, near Jamestown. Miss Darlene Coutles returned home on the weekend after spending '.ast week with Mr. and Mrs. Murray Coultes at Toronto. Mrs. Earl Caslick accom- . paned Mr. and Mrs. Jim Taylor of East Wawanosh on Sunday to visit with Mr. and Mrs. Russel Ross. Weekend visitors with Mrs. Jean Ross were Misses Jean and Barbara Campbell of London. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Sinnamon of Monkton were Thursday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Beecroft and Karen. On Saturday Mr. and Mrs. Archie Purdon, Lori and Kendra were at University Hospital where they visited with Roy Burchill of Goderich. Lori visited with Miss Marjorie Nixon. Mrs. Gordon Rintoul and Gayle were Sunday visitors with her mother, Mrs. Hazel Purdon of Lucknow. On Friday Langside and White- church Sunday School held a picnic at Amberley beach when it was found the Bible School could not be carried out as previously planned. There were around 35 in attendance to enjoy the outing. It was decided to have another picnic this Friday, July 25. Visitors on Thursday with Mr. and Mrs. Victor Emerson were Phil Chadwick, Mrs. Leslie, Mr. • and Mrs. Hewitt of London and Mr. and Mrs. Sam Emerson of Ripley. Mrs. Dalton Schultz returned home from St. Joseph's Hospital on Wednesday. ' Mr. and Mrs. Calvert Falconer 'ofBlyih were visitors this week to ' inform their relatives and friends here that their family is holding Open House in honor of their 50th wedding anniversary on Satur- day, August 2, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 at the home of their son, Bruce Falconer, and Mrs. Falconer, King St. E. Blyth. On Tuesday Mr. and Mrs. Harry Moss of Plattsville and Mr. and Mrs. Melvin McClenaghan of Waterloo visited with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Mc- Clehaghan, and attended the funeraLof their uncle, Herb Laid- law. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Mc- Clenaghan on Saturday attended the wedding of Don Moss and Donna Fuller at Tillsonburg Anglican Church at 3 p.m. The reception was at the community centre. They were accompanied to the wedding by Mrs. Eileen Parker. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Mc- Clenaghan and Mrs. Parker are .uncle and aunts of the groom. This community was sorry to learn on Sunday that, during the early Sunday morning thunder- storm, the barn on the farm of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Versteeg had been burned due to the lightning. At the time of the storm Bill was away at the Bailey farm which he has rented fixing as fence when he saw the light in the sky. Mrs. Ver- steeg phoned the fire department and they released the cattle in the barn. Rev. and Mrs. Clarence Mc- Clenaghan of Paisley were Wednesday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Ben McClenaghan and Mr. and Mrs. Carl McClenaghan. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Evans visited Sunday . with their son, Eric Evans, Mrs. Evans and family of Hyde Park. Mr. and Mrs. Herb Hunter and Trevor of London spent the week- end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Conn. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Gibson, Rhonda, Bill and Gregory spent the weekend touring Manitoulin Island. Mr. and Mrs. Victor Emerson visited Sunday afternoon with Mr. and Mrs. Graham Moffat of Teeswater. The community was sorry to learn of the passing on Saturday of Robert Stewart of the .Langside community in his 76th year. The community extends sympathy to Mrs. Stewart and daughter ;, Mrs. Lorne McAllister (Velma), Mrs. Dave Moffat (Eileen) and son Donald of Teeswater. The funeral was held on Monday from MacPherson Funeral Chapel, Teeswater. Mrs. Mary Miller of Lucknow is recuperating at the home of her son, Allan Miller, Mrs. Miller and family, after being hospitalized in Wingham. Mr. and Mrs. George Young, Heather, Bradley and Cheryl were recent visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Bob Young and Beth of Han- over. LAKELET Mrs. Lorna Clark and Tim of Stratford spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Greenley and Barry. David Demerling left Friday from Toronto International Air- port for Nordjamb '75 in Norway. During the next four weeks he will be visiting Denmark and Sweden. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Demerling and family visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Walter Demerling. They were aecaxnpanied by Mr. Still room on WI bus trip to Lee homestead BLUEVALE -- Mrs. Robert Fraser was hostess and convener for the July meeting of the Women's Institute on Friday eve- ning. Mara. Wendell Stamper, president, presided for the meet- ing which opened with the Ode and the Mary Stewart Collect. There are a few vacant seats for the bus trip to the Erland Lee Homestead and other places of historical interest in the Hamil- ton area on August 13. Anyone wishing to go should contact Mrs. William De Vos before August 6. The bus is leaving Bluevale at 7:45 a.m.. The conveners of Agriculture and Canadian Industries and Education and Cultural Activities are in charge,,of preparing an ex- hibit for the Howick Fair. The Institute received an in- vitation from the Fordwich WI to attend their Tweedsmuir Tea on July 22. A few more recipes are needed to complete the new Insti- tute cook book being published. Anyone wishing to submit a recipe, is asked to leave it at Blathers' Store or give it to an Institute member. The roll call was "Would you encourage your son or daughter. to stay on the farm . and why?" Mrs;, J. C. Johnston gave the motto: "If it 'wasn't for the far- mer, what would the city man do?" Mrs. Fraser ' introduced 'the guest speaker, Murray Gaunt, who spoke on regional govern- ment and land use. John- ston spent the weekend in Tor- onto visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Eugenie Dobie. The Bluevale ladies' softball team met last Tuesday night for a very exciting evening of ball. The highlight of the game.came in the fourth inning when Dale's Ding-a- lings made a triple play, which helped them to defeat Audrey's Oddballs 29-21. Mrs. Edna Forbeck of Niagara Falls was accompanied by her daughter, Mrs. Linda Brindley, Trisha and Kelly to spend the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Elliott and Wingham relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Fraser Haugh and Eileen visited on Tuesday with Mr. and Mrs. Mike Newton, Michael and Cindy at Wroxeter. The Tri -County Girls played in Brussels last Tuesday when Brussels won over Bluevale 31-23. Kurtzville will play in Bluevale Thursday evening, July 24. WINGHAM YOUR WINGHAM PHARMACIST ONTARIO PROVINCE OF ONTARIO Royal Commission on Violence in the Communications Industry By Order -in -Council 1299/ 75 of May 7th, 1975 a Royal Cortlmission to study the possible harm to the public interest of the increasing exploitation of violence in the communications industry was established. The Royal Commission has opened its offices at Room 810, 151 Bloor Street West, Toronto M5S 2V5. Telephone (416) 965-4593. • The Royal Commission's Terms of Reference are: 1. To study the effects on society of the increasing exhibition of violence in the communications industry: 2. To determine if there is any connection or a cause and effect relationship between this phenomenon and the incidence of violent crime in society; 3. To hold public hearings to enable groups and organizations, individual citizens and representatives of the industry to make known their views on the subject; 4. To make appropriate recommendations, if warranted, on any measures that should be taken by the Government of Ontario, by other levels of Government, by the general public and by the industry. The Royal Commission invites interested persons, groups and organizations to send written briefs or letters on these matters. 1. Alt written submissions should be sent at least three weeks in advance of the public hearing in your area and in any event no later than May 31, 1976. 2. Persons wishing to appear before the Royal Commission to present oral briefs should forward a written summary to it at least three weeks in advance of the hearing they wish to attend Hearings will take place from the Fall of 1975 to the Spring of 1976. A later advertisement in this newspaper will give precise dates and locations.
