Since February 6, art exhibits and workshops have been pre- sented in Owen. Sound, Meaford, Walkerton, Durham, Hanover, Kincardine, Southampton, Wiar- ton and Lion's Head. School art displays have been featured in Owen "Sound; Hanover, Thoth- bury,' Holstein, Maxwell, . Dun- dalk and Meaford. In addition to arts and crafts, music, film, photography, figure skating and theatre have also been an important part of Arts - fest '75. Tonight, as one of its dos- ing highlights, the festival will present the Royal Winnipeg Ballet in the Owen Sound Collegi- ate and Vocational Institute. Many of the exciting exhibits were made available through Festival Ontario and the Ontario Guild of Crafts. Some remained in one location for the month, others travelled throughout the two countries. Now, the committee -will look back and look ahead - assessing the success of Artsfest "75 and planning new events for Artsfest '76. The Grey -Bruce Arts Council has also made arrangements to bring the Huron Country Play- house to Owen Sound this summer. The council is hoping that the Grand Bend theatrical group will present an eight -play series during ,July and August. Whether or not this will be pos- sible will depend largely on the playhouse summer schedule in other towns. The Grand Bend group is directed by James Murphy. 0-0-0 Speaking of the Huron Country Playhouse, they will soon have a new home for their productions, replacing the rented tent in which they have performed for so long. The new building will seat 500 people with well -sloped floors, good acoustics and sight lines. It will have an orchestra pit and stage space large enough to ac- commodate full-scale musicals. Modern as it will be, though, the theatre will retain its rustic farm appearance, so appealing to audiences who have attended by Vontii. Lee throughout the years. Peter Smith of the Lett -Smith architectural firm in Toronto has ' -been'named architect for the new building. He was involved in the design of the Fire Hall Theatre in Toronto and the new Shaw. Festival Theatre at Niagara -on - the -Lake. The building will be' constructed in three pha the first expected to be ready time for the '75 season. Cons. • 5tion will begin as quickly as o on phase one which - proximately $50,000. Grants of $25,000 from two levels of federal' and provincial . government will help finance the project. The Huron Country Playhouse has become increasingly more popular throughout the years. To date, it has attracted 25,000 visitors. Last season, the comp- any played to 93 per cent capacity and had four sell-outs. In Huron, and in Grey -Bruce, it is great to see .people taking more of ' an interest in the- cultural activities of their area. Good art, fine music and entertaining theatre can present a rewarding experience and where possible, should' be supported and encour- aged. 0-0-0 Our nation's 16 top skaters, among them Toiler Cranston and Lynn Nightingale, are in Color- ado Springs this week competing. with- the world's finest in their in- dividual classes. CTV will tele- cast. highlights of the competi- tion, beginning tonight (Wednes- day) at 10:30 to. 11:30 when the pairs finals Will be seen. Our hopes in that contest are pinned on Sandra and , Val Bezic, a brother -sister team who were unable to compete in the Canadian championships be- cause of her fragile health. On Thursday evening at the same time, Toiler will do his stuff and we hope, bring back the bacon. He needs the gold medal this year if he hopes to compete in the Olympics and we are confi- dent he will win .it.
